This lens stays on my 5dMarkIV. I can shoot events, and other walk around type photography with it. I've even shot products. and people full length mona white background. Couldn't live without it. Highly recommended

This lens is everything I hoped it would be. I shoot landscapes, events, and portraits and this lens will work for all of those uses. Plus, the macro addition is so handy. I would buy this again.

Great, sharp, love the macro feature. I “downgraded” from the f2.8 24-70 to the 4.0 but in my opinion it was an upgrade. The Lens was a lot sharper, it was a lot smoother to zoom and has the great macro feature for close up wedding ring shots etc. Great Lens!!!

Very sharp and fast auto focus. With the high ISO's of the cameras today I don't really miss the one stop of the 2.8.

I bought this lens to fit into my collection of the 70-200 mm and the nifty fifty. Well this is the lens that I find myself taking everywhere. It has a great wide angle to gather in a scene, but also lets you grab a portrait, or even a very close up of flowers with the macro feature. I highly recommend this lens to anyone looking for the one lens to carry everywhere.

I was looking to replace my 24-105 4.0L IS (first generation lens for the Mark II version as my general purpose lens. After reading forums/reviews I decided to go with the 24-70 4.0L IS as my new general lens. I was a little worried about losing the extra 25mm focal length but not any more. Here are my thoughts as a professional photographer. First, the Macro feature is good, especially for the occasional macro close up image. If you're a hobbyist and/or rely on macro photography for your purpose, stay with the Canon 100 2.8L IS lens for macro photography. The 100 2.8L IS macro lens is much better and more convenient to use for macro vs the 24/70 4.0L IS. Second, the 24-70 4.0L IS lens is more superior than the first generation 24-105 4.0L IS in my opinion. The lens is a little sharper than the 24-105, the biggest difference is at 24mm. my 24-105 had chromatic aberrations at 24mm. This lens has very little aberrations. Sharpness and contrast is great, no issues with that. The lens is light but feels solid and easy to walk around with. The barrel does not creep and stays in any focal length/position. I use the lens for larger group sessions and occasionally landscape. I highly recommend this lens especially if your contemplating over the 24-105.

I bought this lens for an awards banquet job to replace my 24-70 2.8 that I broke. It did a fantastic job, all of group shots were all super sharp.

I am upgrading from my Canon 24-105 L lens to this one. Couldn't be happier! Its smaller, lighter and takes great images. Indoor I thought would be tricky with the F4, but it does just fine and outdoor shots are awesome. Would highly recommend this lens for the overall best carry around lens.

Wanted a lens that I could rock for vlogging and shooting a few pictures. I've been carrying around 3 prime lenses, and this tackles all those things. I decided on this instead of the 2.8 version because of price and IS. I'm happy with this thing! I use a 6Dii for my camera body.

is what I found when I did resolution tests. Typical canon L lens build quality. Only "con" is the close focus distance is 38cm - less would be better.

If I didn't know it was refurbished, I would think its brand new. There isn't a scratch, scuff anywhere on the lens including the glass. I would highly recommend purchasing a refurbished lens from Canon. I've also purchased a refurbed flash and love it.

I bought this lens for use with underwater photography on my Canon 5D Mark III. It worked great and just as I anticipated. It gave me a nice wide angle without any distortion. It also gave me the option to pull objects in a little closer with the 70mm zoom.

As an owner of a few older EF lenses for 35mm Canons, I wanted something with image stabilization to use with my 6D. This lens is perfect for my needs. The quality and performance is what I would expect from a Canon lens. The only drawback is that it is heavy, so keep this in mind if you plan on carrying it all day.

I bought this lens as a complement to my new 70-200mm f/4 IS II USM lens (beautiful lens. I previously had the 24-105mm f/4 IS II USM but found this 24-70mm lighter, no overlap in focal length. I know there is somewhat of a debate between the 24-70mm f/4 IS and the 24-105mm f/4 IS II USM as to which is better, but my opinion the 24-70mm f/4 is sharper than the 24-105mm f/4 IS II USM. I couldn't be happier with my kit. The two lenses work sensationally with my 5D Mark III.

My first impression of this lens was that it is quite contrasty. This can be a good thing, but in my first round of tests I found it to be a bit unforgiving in the brighter areas of the pictures, which were blown out and lacked detail. In the next round of tests I took care to pay more attention to the camera's histogram and highlight warning to avoid overexposing the bright areas (this required several of the shots to be retaken with exposure comp stopped down a bit), and got much better results. Sharpness is good (not quite as sharp in the center compared to my 70-300L at 70mm, but sharper in the corners, which was quite impressive). Feels sturdy, colors are nice (when exposure is correct), and focus and IS are both very quiet. Fluorine coating and weather resistance are both welcome features, as is the macro, which works as advertised. Hopefully these features will make it worth the extra money. During my tests I noticed that this lens seems to lose up to 1/2 stop of light compared to my other 2 lenses (sometimes auto-exposure settings were 1/2 stop brighter to get identical results compared to the other lenses). I don't know why.

I work in an agricultural R&D company where we take pictures of insects, plants, fungi and assorted items such as illustrating procedures. We have the 60 2.8 and 100 2.8 canon macro lenses, but the 24-70 seems to be the go to lens for all the departments. We started using the T5i aand upraded to the T61. Either body with the 24-70 seems to handle most anything we shoot. It is the preferred lens for field work where a versatile, light weight lens is preferable. We are currently doing a tiome lapse experiment where the 24-70 will be the main lens used.

I bought this lens 2 months ago and have used it for a couple of weddings and for general use. Image stabilization is a game-changer, especially at the hardest part of a wedding during the bridesmaid processional. I have a 24-70 f2.8L, which is a wonderful lens but it isn't stabilized and it's heavy. In a low light church, with the girls walking up the aisle I only get one chance. With a flash the old lens got acceptable sharpness with my 6D, if I was careful to not shake while taking the shot. With the new f4 with image stabilization I get excellent sharpness repeatedly. This lens solved my biggest problem. I have heard some people snobishly say they would NEVER buy anything less than an f2.8 lens, but I would never shoot those bridesmaids at 2.8. I shoot at 5.6 or 6.3 because I need the wider depth of field for the moving subject. My 6d gives fine images at high ISO. The photo quality of this lens is really good with no more distortion than the classic 24-70 f2.8, it produces a nice punchy image, it's solidly built, it's light and it's half the price of the other lenses. Don't underestimate what IS can do to improve your sharpness. I love this lens and only pull out the f2.8 occasionally now.

I am new to Canon (I used a Nikon D90 previously). The 24-70 L IS USM Zoom lens that I recently bought certainly appears to be a great lens. I have not used it extensively yet, but I have no complaints.

I shoot a lot of events. This lens is incredible in every mode. It is great for indoors and outdoors. You need a great Canon body to get the best of this lens to come out and make your guests look great. This lens is my new go to lens. It is light, and easy to use. The auto focus is sharp and fast, microseconds from focus to capture. My 28 - 300 f2.8 L IS never came out of the bag, which is usually my lens of choice. Weight is what came into play here. This was a 4 hour event, and a lighter camera/lens combo had a lot of weight (puny) in the decision to start with the 24-70. Of the Special effects you can get with this lens is an artistic type of appeal because of the fall off at 24 mm. The lines are crystal clear and seem to bend into an outer obscurity with tac sharp focus. The folks at Canon have really been working hard to make a lens like this available to the semi pro and amateur photographer. Thank you for making this lens.

This lens gives truly great pictures. I use this for indoor and outdoor photographs of my grandchildren. Always happy with the results. Images are sharp, no distortion at all. I would highly recommend this lens.

This is my second "L" Series lens which I use with my EOS 70D camera. It is a little heavier than I expected but the quality and feel of the lens is marvelous. It is hard to quantify, but somehow the pictures seem sharper. Light is somehow handled better. Few things that I have ever purchased have delivered the delight right out of the box that was delivered with this lens. Thrilled. I have only just begun to unwrap the macro capability but once again I am delighted. I use my EF 24-70mm primarily to create group portraits, mostly for indoor events.

What’s the point of a mattebox, anyway? I never bothered with one for years and did just fine, thank you very much. Today I posses four of them. How’d that happen? If I’m primarily a dslr video shooter – why would I need one?

Versatility & Superb Quality combined

I wanted to buy a lens which I can leave on the camera most of the time and capture great images with. The standard zoom lens was missing in my collection as I shoot mostly with primes and a telephoto L zoom lens so I decided to do some research. After deciding that the 2.8ii would be too expensive and the 24-105 being too outdated I then proceeded to look at the 24-70 F4 IS. The new F4 IS seems to fit my needs perfectly - a small but high quality zoom that's built to a high standard along wi...

Love it but wish I had the F/2.8 version

Love this lens. Very sharp. Perfect MM range for walk around camera. I however am taking a lot of indoor sports which this lens is just a bit to slow for. On a 5D Makr III at ISO 2000 and speed of 350. It is still to dark. Can brighten post, but you get noise either way. By being too dark or by using a higher ISO. So if you are wanting to take fast indoor pictures with no flash, you should get the EF 24-70mm 2.8. I have the 16-35mm L 2.8 and it does great in the same gym, but it is a little s...

The Canon EOS 24-70mm f/4L IS USM is designed for full-frame DSLRs like the Canon EOS 6D. With 2 aspheric and 2 UD elements, the EF 24-70mm f/4L IS USM is said to deliver high-quality images with excellent detail throughout the entire zoom range. A 9-blade circular diaphragm should produce pleasingly soft backgrounds. It offers a minimum focusing distance of 1.25 ft./0.38m across the entire zoom range and has a macro mode at the telephoto end with up to 0.7x magnification (minimum focusing distance becomes 7.87 in./0.2m) and is easily accessible with a one-touch switch.
This lens features a Hybrid IS system with up to 4 stops of stabilization, compensating for both angular and shift types of camera shake, delivering effective stabilization even in macro. Inner focusing and ring-type USM deliver, fast, quiet AF, and full-time manual focus is available for manual focusing even while in AF mode. The durable EF 24-70mm f/4L IS USM is sealed for excellent dust and water resistance plus has fluorine coating on the front and rear elements reducing smears and fingerprints.
