The Leica 50mm Summilux ASPH is the absolute perfect blend of sharpness and character. It controls vignetting and chromatic aberration very well, even wide open at f/1.4 while rendering the closest photographs on 35mm format that I've ever seen to Medium Format. 5 Stars 10/10.

Amazing lens, even better than I expected it to be. The build quality and feeling on this lens is one of a kind, the experience of using it is unlike no other. But better yet the final result is as you would expect of a Leica lens.

There's a reason there is a long waiting list for this lens...Simply amazing IQ, in the same category as the 35mm FLE lens. The silver version is great, but heavier than the black - but the silver one is a lot more scratch resistant from what I understand.

The new Leica 50mm 1.4 m lens ASPH is one of the top performing 50mm lenses I have ever used. Sharpness is superb, contrast is excellent, and the bokeh (background blur) at 1.4 is smooth with an individual characteristic to it. I really like the fact that the built in pull out shade locks in place if you rotate the shade a quarter turn. Focusing can be accomplished either by rotating the focus ring, or using the finger tab which enables a more balanced hold of an M body since only one fingered is required to focus. This lens feels like a high quality product and the images that it is capable of producing is astonishing.

As Natural as the Human Eye
Fit for any situation
The know-how of Leica's engineers, together with the latest developments in manufacturing technology, has resulted in this outstanding standard lens. It has a natural image angle that corresponds to a human eye view and is ideal for available-light situations, selective-focus shots, and even fine art photography - making it a top choice in assembling a Leica M-Lens outfit.
Technical details
The Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4 ASPH delivers high-contrast images with high-resolution detail even at its widest aperture, or down to its minimum focusing distance. This is made possible by a number of factors including the use of a floating element, special glass types with unique refraction properties, and elements with aspherical surfaces.
Black-chrome finish model
The black-chrome finish design version of the Summilux-M 50 mm f/1.4 ASPH is exceptional and exclusive. The matte black look model is made of solid brass. The traditional design is inspired by its predecessor from 1959 and reflects its typical features, such as the scalloped focusing ring and a finely knurled aperture ring. In addition, the feet scale design is in red. Furthermore, a round metal lens hood and a metal lens cap are also included in the package .
Into the Dark - The Leica Summilux-M 1:1,4/50 mm ASPH. at "Wacken Open Air"
25 years ago it has been an exceptional idea: North of Hamburg, in the tiny village of Wacken, local Heavy Metal Bands played for some hunderd fans in a tent on the countryside. Today 85.000 paying visitors make a pilgrimage to "Wacken Open Air" celebrating at the world's largest Heavy Metal Festival. The heart of the festival is not only the conducting bands but more the "Wacken Family", the parties and peaceful celebration. Leica photographer Michael Agel visited the festival once more this year and captured the special atmosphere of the "black giant", as the "Rolling Stone" titled the festival, with the Leica Summilux-M 1:1,4/50 mm ASPH at the Leica M Monochrom.
Leica M - Innovation born of tradition
Uniting decades of rangefinder technology experience with innovative digital technologies, the new Leica M features a freshly developed high resolution full format CMOS which delivers impeccable imaging results. Now featuring Live View, video and new focusing methods, the M merges craftsmanship and innovation.
