For what it does it seems way overpriced, but it worked exactly as described. If you really really need it, it's fine. But for the price, I'd find another work around.

AJA Rocks!

I've used AJA products for over 15 years, they're solid pieces of hardware that have never failed me. the U-Tap is no exception. I plugged in the HDMI cable from my camera, ran the USB 3 connection into my trusty CalDigit thunderbolt 2 dock and attached it to my late 2011 17 inch Macbook Pro. The computer saw the signal, the software saw the picture and everything was right as rain. Had it plugged in for nearly 7 hours without one hiccup. AJA rocks!

High quality video capture, easy to use

Absolutely love the U-TAP. Simple, and it just works. The only thing I appreciated more is the communication and fast shipping.

It's great till it ain't

I wanted to like this device so much The concept is nice. It gives a quality picture except when it locks up. And it's not if it's going to lock, it's when. It appears that when it gets hot it will lock up without warning. This makes it totally unusable for live streaming or any other job that might last a few hours.

Stops capture - overheating?

I bought two of these for multi-camera live streaming. I worked well for a month. Pros: works out of box, no drivers required for OBS. Cons: after a month of use one out of two devices developed a defect when video capture stops arbitrarily. I suspect overheating, but could be about anything. Unacceptable for a pro equipment.
