This is nice, but needs a little more.

The grip functions just like the shutter button on the Elan 7N/NE and has an AE lock button as well. What it lacks is a secondary main dial above the shutter button like the main grip on the Elan 7N/NE. This means more time setting a desired exposure setting. Canon does it for their digital SLR's though. Oh well... This grip serves me well. It also allows the use of AA alkaline or NiMH rechargable batteries.

About Canon Battery Pack BP-300, Vertical Grip for EOS-Elan 7, 7E, 7N & 7NE Cameras.

An external battery pack dedicated to the Canon ELAN 7. The BP-300 can be used with either four AA-size batteries (alkaline, Ni-CD or NiMH) or two CR123A lithium batteries as an additional power source. It also features, on the vertical grip, a shutter release button, on/off switch as well as an AE/FE Lock button for greater convenience.
