I like the grip. But I asked a Canon customer service rep if the ac adapter coupling for it would work if inserted into the grip, in one of the battery compartments and he said no. That means that the battery grip has to be removed for ac adapter use.

With two fully-charged batteries in the grip, I was able to shoot all day long (about 750 photos), with power to spare. Without it, I'd have to fumble through my pockets, where I usually keep a second battery, then switch the fully-charged for the nearly dead one in the camera. Most of the time this is not a big deal. However, if you are photographing a moving crowd or any other action, you don't necessarily want to have to stop and potentially miss any of the action. The one downside. With two batteries in the grip, it adds a substantial amount of weight. If you have a heavy lens on the camera and then add the grip and batteries, you'll almost always need two hands.
