this lens works as well or better than you would expect for the price. my biggest issues are that the autofocus is usually a little off and color fringing is really bad when taking a photo of anything backlit. i do microstock, so color fringing will get a photo rejected every time, but this lens will do quite well for someone learning or taking casual photos for fun. it even works fairly well for portraits. i see some color fringing in my studio as well even when not backlit. i always have to focus manually with this lens, and some times it is still off. it's also not a super sharp lens, but what can you expect for the price. bottom line: if you don't need top notch performance, this lens may work very well for you.

This is an excellent lens. I use it for portrait shoots for shooting model portfolios. It gives excellent shots and is very versatile. It provides perfect focus and is easily interchangable, which is a plus when keeping down the length of shoots as a pro. The only thing i found about it that i didn't like, was it was not very easy to clean around the edge of the glass. I'm sure it would be easy to clean with a brush, but i used wipes. Other than that, excellent lens at a bargain price!!

I purchased this lens about a month ago along with a Rebel XS kit with an 18-55mm lens. The Canon 28-90mm refurb lens looks like new and works very well. It only leaves my camera when i need a wider angle. The only real issue i have with it is that the autofocus does not produce a clean picture. It is always off and the entire picture takes on a really "mottled" or "pixelled" look. Manual focus works well though especially when using the LCD screen to magnify the area you want to focus on. Nice bokeh too! I do find it works well for portraits and semi-closeups of insects or flowers. All in all, I'm happy with it, but wish it had image stabilization. Once I get the 28-300mm I'm looking at, this one may stay in my studio for portraits though.

For a price like this, it can't be beat! It's almost inexpensive enough to use as a lens cap, and is always ready to take a quick photo!

I got this lens in a kit with the Rebel T2. It's an extremely versatile lens which has served me well all the way up until my junior level photography classes. The lens shows very much chromatic abberation (color-flare) when photographing subjects with bright backgrounds. Also, the sharpness wide-open leaves much to be wanted. However, it's an extremely versatile lens that's perfect for just starting out in photography.
