    Disappointed

I purchased this a couple of years ago and have had problem after problem with it not working correctly. I have sent it in to be fixed yet the problems continue. I have backup Canon Rebel t1i and continue to use that more often and it works fantastic. I am really disappointed in the 70D. The weight of it and the reliability, and problems I have are really disappointing.

    Loved it, Until.......

If I had written this review two months ago, I would have given it 5 stars. I loved this camera. I primarily use it for quick shoots and video self tape auditions. It worked like a charm for 3 years. 2 days ago it happened to me like so many others. The camera locked up and went dead. Canon has known about this mother board problem for a while and they refuse to fix it. Instead of paying 400 dollars to fix this camera, I am putting that towards a nikon. I was such a fan for so long but lack of customer service is a deal breaker. This makes me very sad.

Never in focus, and LED screen went bad

I've had this camera for about 2 years, and it's never focused properly. Now the LED screen is going bad. Just sent it into Canon to look at but guessing it won't be a quick fix. My Rebel lasted longer than this piece of junk. So disappointed in Canon I think my next camera will have to be a Nikon.

    Worthless Canon 70D!!!

I absolutely HATE my Canon 70d! The pictures are “out of focus” when using the autofocus setting, it does not take good quality “rapid photos”. I absolutely Loved my Canon 20d and have used it for years...I was hoping to really love the 70d...however, that purchase was a HUGE and expensive MISTAKE!

    It's a love/hate relationship

The focuse works great, however, it's hard to push the buttons soemtimes. I love shooting my children and my husbands. It has become quite a lovely hobby.

    Camera locks up and freezes.

The 70d is a problem camera. Mine has locked up several times and win not reset correctly. Reviews show that the 70d has BIG problems which caused so many problems for photographers. I switched over from Sony Alpha and spend thousands on canon gear and several lens. Big big BIG mistake thinking canon was going to be more of a reliable camera. I recommend Sony or Nikon, they last as long as you do. Read all the Google reviews, to many complaints and problems with Canon cameras

Mine went dead also, $440 quote to replace motherboard. Bad customer service still have not resolved weeks later, on third person playing phone tag. Switching to another brand, fully frustrated. Looking at Sony or Nikon.

    IN LOVE WITH THIS CAMERA!

This is an amazing camera even if you are a pro or a beginner, really easy to use. Also auto focus is great! I highly recommend this bundle, so far, Adorama has the best prices I ever seen, especially for me, because I'm from El Salvador and here cameras are really expensive, but I had a problem, so if you are purchasing this from another country make sure that Adorama send u enough shipping labels, because in my case they sent this in 3 packages but only 1 shipping label, so I had to pay more taxes, THAT IS THE ONLY REASON WHY IDK IF I WOULD PURCHASE FROM ADORAMA AGAIN, besides that, I'm really happy with my order, srsly,, BEST PRICES ONN THE MARKET.

Use it more than my 6D

This is my second 70D. I also own the 6D and do a lot of professional portraits. The colors from the 70D are exceptional and natural so I use it more than the 6D. I just prefer the 70d's colors. It also locks on focus more quickly in low light than the 6D. Love that the built-in flash can be used to trigger off-camera flash. And even though it doesn't have the new "flicker through" technology of the 80D and 7D II, I have never had a problem under fluorescent lights. In fact, one company I do headshots for allows me only 5 minutes with each person under overhead flourescents. The 70D produces great results using the available fluorescent light only, with a custom white balance. I did comparison shots with off camera flash -- the available light was better. No flicker-through technology needed (see example). I needed another body and considered the new 80D but don't like the sub-menus Canon added. The 70D is one of the best cameras Canon has ever made. Great with the 15-85mm lens.

    Bad Motherboard

I spent $1500 on this camera about 3 years ago. Last time I used it was about 4 months ago. I had kept it stored in my camera bag in a safe dry area all this time. Nothing touched it since the last time I used it. It wasn’t exposed to dust or humidity. Today it won’t turn on. Everything online says it’s probably the motherboard which will probably cost $400+. I’m extremely disappointed that I spent so much money on what I though would be a lifelong reliable camera. The only reason I gave 2 stars is because I really did enjoy the photos it captured when it actually worked.

Both Product AND Vendor Exceeded Expectations!

Having recently graduated to semi-retired status from the feature film and original television production world; I decided to treat myself to a DSLR upgrade from a Canon EOS XSi (now my wife's) to a well-received and reviewed Canon EOS 70D. The 70D is everything and more than I thought it would be, and admittedly, has pleasantly exceeded my expectations! I look forward to enjoying it on many a new adventure... And YES - I would highly recommend the Canon 70D to anyone looking for a well-appointed DSLR, and without breaking the bank. It should also be noted that doing business with Adorama has been an absolute joy! Throughout the ordering process and beyond, the staff at Adorama has presented the finest example of customer service, and an absolute breath of fresh air. Something so absent with many vendors. Kudos to your sales and support staff! Enjoyed having the opportunity of conveying these sentiments in person while at NAB recently. Keep up the good work in elevating the buying and after-the-sale experience!

I love my EOS 70D (most of the time

I have had the EOS 70D camera for 3 years and it takes great pictures when the auto-focus works. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is the focus is off sometimes. Most days almost every picture is sharp, some amaze me they are so good but once in a great while about half are not. I would not recommend this camera to a pro or someone who needs consistency.

    Touch Screen issues

Touch screen quit functioning in Manual and AV modes 13 months after purchase so just out of warranty. Cleared all the camera settings, pulled the battery for 2 hours in case it was something I did and not the camera. Still does not work. Hoping my Nikkon camera friends were wrong about the quality of current Canon cameras.

Focus issue everything else is great

take mostly sports shots. At first it worked ok but now the active shots are all soft and not sharp at all. I have the 100-400 and several other canon lenses and they work well on other cameras. Because of my investment I must stay with Canon but wish I could move on to something else. Will probably try the 80d to see if it is any better.

    Sorry I bought it . . glad I still have my 50D

This dual pixel focus doesn't work well. VERY soft image quality and I'm not the only one to see it. Also have a problem with the external flash . . . Don't know why but there are times when using my 430 EX flash the resulting photo appears overexposed to the point it's almost totally white. EXIF info shows exposure to be consistent with what should have produced a great photo. This doesn't happen all of the time. Between the terrible focusing (it happens with three different Canon lenses, one of the L) and this flash issue I don't have any confidence or trust in this camera. I'm going back to my 50D. BTW . . I know their engineers are great and got the firmware EXACTLY right the first time . . thus there's no need for an update since shipping.

    Excellent Camera

I have had my 70D for two years and am SO happy with the purchase! The camera has been to Hawaii, London and various U.S. cities and I'm very satisfied with the results. The quick response and focusing allows you to get shots you weren't able to in the past. The video feature is a delight. I'm still learning that aspect of the camera but it's fun! This was a definite step up from the 40D, one I do not regret.

    Great for Sports!

I do sports photography for the local High School. Getting great shots with a Sigma 17-50MM 2.8 lens. No need for flash & getting great low noise shots at high ISO. Focusing is quick & spot on! Love this camera!

    Out of Focuse

I bought this camera because it was the best of both worlds. I could capture a great photograph as well as great video footage. 2 years ago I was a little bit green when it came to photography. After an internship at a studio and a few classes I definitely know how to take a photograph. Unfortunately this camera has given me several issues with the focus when I am photographing. When I am shooting live view videos it seems to be fine... This is not a user error. I have had every camera guru take a look at this for me and after extreme doubt have read all over the internet about this problem. Unfortunately I will need a new camera body and am working with the camera shop to exchange.

I have been a Canon user for quite some time and I recently made this purchase to upgrade my previous camera and I must say that the 70D is incredible. For the amount of money, build quality and image quality. This camera is extremely good value!

    My first DSLR

Great camera for the price. Full of features. I use a 50mm f/1.4 USM lens and the pics come out fairly well but sometimes fuzzy. Not sure I like the cropped sensor experience though, especially when using EF lenses.

    Does Multiple Things Well

    By Aaron

I have been a professional for a few years now and I started on the 7D and then upgraded to the 6D. In that upgrade, I lost fps to gain image quality and it worked out all right in most shooting situations. I started to work with a lot of sports and the 6D wasn't cutting it as I was losing a lot with 4.5 fps. I also shoot documentaries for my clients. I needed a camera that could do several things well and the 70D is the camera that helps me do it on a budget. I could only afford one camera b...

Learn about the Canon EOS 70D

Take your first steps into the world of DSLR photography or upgrade your Canon 60D body with the Canon EOS 70D Digital SLR Camera. The Canon 70D adds several new features to its predecessor, including sensor-based autofocus and in-built wireless technology, with the ability to control the camera's exposure settings remotely using the free Canon EOS Remote App for iOS and Android, a useful additional feature that will be appreciated by photographers of all levels.

Whether you're shooting HD or SD video, this Canon 20 megapixel camera has Dual Pixel CMOS AF, which allows the Canon D70's autofocus to function smoothly; it also means the camera is able to focus faster, so you'll never miss a shot, making this camera the ideal choice for sports events and family gatherings.

One of the key highlights of the EOS 70D is its flip-out high-resolution 3.0” touch screen, which makes it easy to control stills and video using the screen rather than the on-camera controls. This is a feature only available on the latest cameras, and it's well worth having.

    Enhanced connectivity

With its in-built Wi-Fi, the Canon EOS 70D Digital SLR Camera can be easily connected to a Local Area Network (LAN), allowing files to be seamlessly transferred between two compatible Canon cameras. You can even upload images using Canon iMage Gateway and print them, with no PC in sight! This feature ensures the Canon 70D will be the preferred camera body of choice for professional photographers shooting on location or anyone looking to minimize their kit – you'll wonder how you ever managed without it!

    Sound and video

If it's full 1080 HP video you're looking to shoot, the Canon EOS 70D won't let you down there either, with features such as 64 sound recording levels, an in-built stereo mic and 3.5mm jack. SD video is supported too and the short 'Video Snapshots' feature allows you to record and combine clips, no editing required!

    Handy features

The Canon 70D offers photographers a range of shooting modes – the hand-held night scene mode allows users to take four shots using fast shutter speed and reduces camera shake, so you might even find yourself shooting without a tripod.  The features on board are designed to make your life easier, so you can shoot in any light conditions, at any time of day with just the camera and no need for additional equipment. For all these modes and other features, users can refer to the Feature Guide on-board help system, a must for those acquainting themselves with using a DSLR for the first time.

    From the Manufacturer
The Canon 70D introduces a handful of key new features that promise improved video quality, much faster and more decisive autofocus, built-in Wi-Fi, and higher resolution. Let's take a closer look at the Canon EOS 70D

The big technology leap for the Canon EOS 70D is its sensor-based autofocus. Called Dual Pixel CMOS AF, this technology was made possible by reworking the design of the sensor. Instead of offering one photodiode per pixel, the 70D's sensor has assigned two photodiodes per pixel. This allows the camera to simultaneously capture light and perform phase-difference detection autofocus. What this means to the average user is that the camera should be able to focus faster and more accurately, and for full autofocus to operate smoothly and accurately while shooting videos.

A second big new technology (for Canon's APS sensor lineup) is the addition of built-in wireless technology. The camera's exposure settings, such as aperture, shutter speed and ISO, focus, and shutter can be operated wirelessly using an iOS or Android smartphone with the free Canon EOS Remote app. Users can shoot remotely from a distance, even in Live View mode and remotely review images stored on the EOS 70D from their smart phone or tablet.

Still images can be transferred between two wireless-enabled Canon cameras over a Local Area Network (LAN) and can be uploaded via Canon iMage Gateway and printed directly from a wireless PictBridge printer without the need for a PC.

The EOS 70D camera's 20.2 Megapixel CMOS sensor, the highest-resolution APS-C sensor to date, records 5472 x 3648 pixels and offers 14-bit signal processing for what Canon claims is improved tonal gradation. Canon says the new 5+ Image Processor will yield improved data processing speeds, greater noise reduction, and real-time compensation for chromatic aberration.

Canon claims the 70D will record up to 16,384 colors per channel thanks to its 14-bit analog-to-digital conversion, and the camera has a wide ISO range of 100-12800, expandable to 25,600 in H mode. The company claims improved noise reduction and better performance in low-light shooting.

    HD Video Improvements
Canon's claim for the 70D is that its HD video performance rivals that of camcorders. The camera offers All-I and IPB compression, supports H.264/MPEG-4 AVC High Profile, and automatically splits files greater than 4GB (FAT specifications) for extended recording without interruption. It offers the option of time coding during recording only (Rec Run) or at all times (Free Run), which is useful for multi-camera shoots.

There's a built-in stereo mic, 64 adjustable sound recording levels, and the camera has a 3.5mm mic jack. The camera can also record "Video Snapshots"-2,4, or 8-second video clips that can be combined into a highlights album without the need for editing.

    Viewfinder and LCD
The Canon EOS 70D features a high resolution (over 1 million dots) flip-out touch screen which lets users control the camera for stills and video from the screen. The eye-level viewfinder is an optical finder with a superimposed LCD display that superimposes focus points, grid lines and other compositional tools as well as exposure information over the optical image-a feature that can be turned on or off.

    Special effects and modes
The Canon EOS 70D offers a wide range of shooting modes and effects, including High Dynamic Range covering a range of plus and minus 3 stops, multiple exposure mode up to 9 images in RAW and JPEG, a handheld night scene mode that combines four shots at fast shutter speed to reduce camera shake, HDR backlight mode, and seven creative filters: Grainy Black and White, Soft Focus, Fisheye Effect, Toy Camera Effect, Miniature Effect, Art Bold Effect and Water Painting Effect. Each of these effects can be applied at three levels of opacity.

Other effects include multi-shot noise reduction: the camera captures four images in quick succession, merges and aligns them to reduce noise. A Lens aberration correction tool corrects for vignetting and color fringing. The camera has an on-board help mode called Feature Guide, which briefly describes each mode. It is compatible with the optional Canon GP-E2 GPS receiver.
