I can't use this lens for my professional work because the image quality is poor between 1.2 and 1.8. It's also very unpredictable.

I used to shoot nothing but prime lenses, and when the Canon 28-70 F/2L came out, I sold all of them except my 105mm Sigma 1.4, and that has been my work horse lens for the last half decade. I was so excited to grab this lens for run and gun engagement sessions, street photography etc, and it has not disappointed! I find that it's just about perfect from 1.8 to 3.5. 1.2 and 1.6, you start to see some pretty significant dropoffs in contrast and corner sharpness. HOWEVER... it's so LIGHT. And it's SHARP. With any lens, work within its limits and you'll be happy. This one has been super fun so far.

This lens is great for the price. it allows for tremendous creativity for a hobbyist who likes or doesn't care about some aberrations. auto focus is fast and precise even at f1.2; you can make your subject pop out from a messy background... This lens is the only reason I switched from Nikon to Canon.. Zero regrets. (Sorry Nikon I'm a Canon Boy now)

Really fantastic lens. Quick and smooth AF. Light weight and easy to use. Very strong vignette before lens correction in LRC or C1. Wish it came with a hood.

I was skeptical of this lens at first after watching reviews online but its personality and look is amazing. Thanks for making this Canon!

This prime lens has the perspective of a human eye, so your photos feel immediately natural. The wide f/1.2 aperture is great for low light, helping you keep shutter speeds fast and ISO low. Because of the smart, compact design and the special aspheric lens, you get sharp images without the lens being heavy or difficult to carry.
The short back focus design works with digital correction to create a remarkably compact f/1.2 large-diameter lens.

Isolate your subject with beautiful, three-dimensional bokeh and shoot effectively even in dark environments.

Corrects aberrations for high clarity and sharpness across the frame, a first in a Canon f/1.2 lens.
A silent, magnetic detection system that makes the focusing mechanism significantly smaller and lighter.

Capture natural angles and perspectives that feel instantly relatable and authentic.
Quickly customize and adjust various lens functions without taking your eye from the viewfinder.
