good can be even better

To complement the new gen of DSLRs we need more flexible flashes. This is a good step in that direction, and I'd like to see more from Canon and others.

Love it so far

I did a photo shoot yesterday with the flash, using the rechargeable batteries and bracket that came with the flash. I did studio and outdoor shots and it functioned perfectly in both settings. As an added bonus the bracket made it easier to remove the camera from the not very great tripod I use as we headed outdoors. What a difference an adjustable flash makes in image quality. Sometimes you regret a purchase but not this time...I love it so far. I have not used the hood that came with it but I'll give that a try on my next shoot.

Already own two for myself. Bought one as a gift for my son's family with a new infant. Very functional, compact and versatile with the Canon T3i.

Solid Flash

A good, all-around flash for anyone from beginners to expert photographers. The LED light on the front of the flash is very useful for shooting video in low light

Disappointed

I don't really like this flash....first it does the pulsating pre flash which is noisy and distracting especially at weddings. Secondly, it doesn't seem to have much battery life. I am going to keep playing with it to see if I can get some of the settings changed but so far what I have read...it is the way it is...

Best Price for the Money

Best Overall, Economy, Flash for from Canon. The distinguishing feature is the fill light for Videos which is not found in Canon flashes in this price category.

Good Flash

Was pleased with the ease of use and compatibilty with my T4i, wish there was more manual abilities. Otherwise, what sets this flash apart is the fill video light which is very useful in short video interviews, etc.

very nice

I have just started using this product. I find it to be a very good value for the price. It does not have the settings that the higher price speed lights have but for starting out I am very pleased.

430 EX II is better

The LED focus assistant light only works for movie shooting or live view focus which uses slow contrast focus. If LED is not a necessary feature to you. Please add $30 more to buy 430 EX II. It's better in every way except LED. I bought this one only because Adorama has it on sale.

Flash means less time editing

Have used it primarily for portraits and it's worth the [$]. It recycles pretty fast and fills in the shadows well. It eventually saves time with the editing aspect since more pictures are almost perfect. I do wish they will eventually invent a flash that's not so bulky and heavy.

Love it!

I absolutely love this flash. It's very versatile as it rotates 180 and can aim up or straight. The LED works great as a video light and doesn't drain the battery fast. It can also be linked to other flashes which is a PLUS! Over all for the price and features I think its a great buy!

Great addition

A wonderul addition to the Canon T3i. Furnishes more light, and using the bounce and diffuser effects the results are amazing. Compact, and fits easily in camera bag. Highly recommended.

Very nice unit

Especially like that the flash head can be turned both up and down and sideways. Bouncing off a wall instead of the ceiling can be a nice effect. Unit gives accurate exposures in any mode.

Great flash but annoying flashing LED

When in "Slave" mode (on or off the camera - in this case a Canon 3Ti) the front LED light CONSTANTLY flashes every 3-4 seconds (AF-assist). After extensive research, there doesn't appear to be any way to disable this either from the camera or flash itself. It's extremely annoying and in theory, could cause an epileptic episode in those pre-disposed.

Great combo flash

So I am at a family event, what do i bring besides a designated driver... yes my camera.I was not asked to official shot the event but i also had free rein if i wanted and i used it.. it was my 1st time really using the canon 320ex and it was great. The on flash video light meant i caught all the dancing in excellent light while shooting video with my Canon Eos60d.. Even after all the jack that was coming the pics/videos came out great ...That being said I do wish it had manual controls for power output.

Canon's most versatile, easiest to use

If you're looking for a versatile flash that's easy to use, look no further than the 320 EX. It's my all around favorite flash! No its not the most powerful, and no it isn't overloaded with features and functionality, however, what it has is what most photographers will need about 85 - 90% of the time. Is it as function filled and powerful at the 580 EX II? NO, its not meant to be. What separates the 320 EX from the 580 EXII for example is its ease of use, you want to make it a slave? Flick a switch. You want an LED light (something no other Canon Flash has) to better record video? Push a button. You want to set this flash up as part of a group or change channels? Flick a couple of switches and viola! The telephoto and swiveling head options give the photographer more creative control as well. The fact of the matter is, as photographers, we want simplicity, versatility and consistency. The 320 EX delivers! Some people use the term "walk around" when it comes to an all around lens for example, well if there's a "walk around" flash for the Canon system, then its the 320 EX. BTW, a couple other points, one pro and one con, the pro is you can use the 320 EX as a remote to trigger your camera (only works with Canon's more recent DSLRs - 7D, 60D, t3i, etc) and the con is the 320 EX can't be used as a "master flash" to trigger other flashes, in my opinion, that's the one glaring shortcoming of the 320 EX, apart from that, its a GREAT value!

FEATURED REVIEWS

By MK

I love this Speedlite the design looks and feels durable. The quality in light that produces its very high quality. I would highly recommend this product to any photographer looking to produce professional looking photos not to mention canons cleaver idea of an integrated LED Light just perfect. The only problem would actually be not finding a diffuser for it but considering that its canons latest newest flash i'm cutting break.

Very nice unit

By JIM B.

Especially like that the flash head can be turned both up and down and sideways. Bouncing off a wall instead of the ceiling can be a nice effect. Unit gives accurate exposures in any mode.

In a first for Canon Speedlites, the versatile new Speedlite 320EX features an LED light on the front of the flash body that can be used to illuminate nearby subjects in dim light. The light is ideal for video recording but can also be used as a modeling light or as an AF assist beam during Live View shooting. When used with EOS DSLRs that have integrated Speedlite transmitters, the Speedlite 320EX can be used as a wireless slave unit positioned off-camera.

A flash release function further facilitates wireless flash shooting by enabling the shutter to be released remotely from the Speedlite 320EX with a two-second delay, which gives the photographer time to re-aim the flash if necessary. The Speedlite 320EX combines rich bounce functionality with high performance, ensuring smooth, professional-looking results.

Flash coverage and guide number can be changed manually by extending or retracting the flash head. The Normal position provides wide coverage equivalent to a 24mm lens (full-frame) with a guide number of 79 (ft.) / 24 (m) at ISO 100. The Tele position boosts the guide number to 105 (ft.) / 32 (m) at ISO 100 while providing coverage for lenses 50mm and longer (full-frame).

Lightweight, pocket-sized, grip-friendly, and with an intuitive, easy-to-operate design, the Speedlite 320EX is powered by 4 AA batteries (not included) and recharges silently in approximately 2 seconds.

Canon Speedlite 320EX Flash Features

  • Built-in LED light can be used to illuminate nearby subjects in dim light - especially useful when shooting video, as a modeling light or as an AF assist beam (with Live View), providing up to four hours of continuous lighting with fully-charged AA batteries.
  • Versatile vertical and horizontal bounce capability provides an extended range of possible lighting effects.
  • Flash release function triggers the camera wirelessly from the flash on a 2-second delay, allowing the flash to be repositioned to illuminate the subject.
  • Wireless Slave function supports three groups and four channels, allowing the flash to be positioned off-camera.
  • Flash coverage can be switched by extending or retracting flash head, with Normal (24mm full-frame equivalent, max. Guide No. 79 ft./24m at ISO 100) and Tele (50mm full-frame equivalent, max. Guide No. 105 ft./32m at ISO 100) settings.
  • Light and compact body holds 4 AA batteries with a fast recycle time of 2.0 seconds.
