Review Summary

Had the camera for 4 years. Was working great until it started zooming out by itself. Tried compressed air with no luck. Makes the camera virtually useless. Several similar problems on the Canon forum with this model and several others. Canon doesn't seem to be acknowledging the problem. This is a semi-professional grade camcorder that isn't cheap. Have always bought Canon products for the past 30 years. That will change.

First and foremost our team Central Iowa Ghost Society would like to say thank you for the best customer service you can ask for. We purchased two of these kits and they work amazing for the service we supply. This kit is so easy to set up and use we would recommend it to anyone. Great quality and service is what makes this one of the best products out in the market.

Love this camera just wish the light that came with it would have come with a battery.

I've owned the XA35 for about a year now, and I still absolutely love this camera! For being professional grade and offering as many features as it does, I find it easy to use. The camcorder comes with an excellent lens and has exceptional low-light shooting. Paired with a Rode-Mic Pro you can get excellent footage even on auto. The camera is super light weight which is great for taking with you for hikes, or like me, using it with a fairly heavy stedicam. The one thing that would have made this a camcorder a superstar is if the lens wasn't fixed. It would be really cool to throw an 18mm lens or something on there to get some different looks. With that said, as mentioned above... the lens it comes with is wide angle and a great all around lens. Yes, the camera is expensive, but I'm happy with my decision.

This is an awesome camera! It has all the bells and whistles of a professional camera, but is small enough and light enough for run and gun shooting. Would recommend to others!

We're a smaller church, so we needed a camera that has professional features without a professional price, or that needed intense professional training. This camera fits the bill. While we were upgrading our video system, we needed HD-SDI connectivity. Plus this camera has so many other features that we are still toying with. It's worth the money. P.S. I rarely give 5 stars.

Canon rolls out the XA30 and XA35, two compact camcorders primed to take the pro videography industry by storm.

Being touted as a much lighter (and stealthier) pro camcorder, the Canon XA35 is given a quick preview by an ALC contributor.

Just as we give you an overview of CCW 2015, NAB rebrands the annual expo as "NAB Show New York."

Great for Live Production
By Caleb D.
Really great camera that is easy to use. Picture comes out really nice and the SDI output is great for sending it to our switcher. Great zoom as well.
For fast, compact, and powerful performance specially suited for on-the-go Electronic News Gathering (ENG) production, corporate videos and higher education, Canon's XA35 Professional Camcorder offers a remarkable combination of portability, image quality and I/O capability. Its HD/SD-SDI Terminal offers easy connectivity to broadcast vans, workstations and other digital cinema/TV hardware, helping to provide incredibly fast transfer of uncompressed video with timecode and audio embedded for rapid productions. Plus, with a Genuine Canon 20x High Definition Optical Zoom lens and a newly designed HD CMOS Pro Image Sensor with improved low-light performance, the XA35 captures superb Full HD 1920x1080 video.
The XA35 features two new modes: Wide DR Gamma and Highlight Priority, which help to deliver an expansive range of colors and tones virtually consistent with how they're seen by the naked eye. A new interval recording option rounds out the XA35's ability to capture dramatic footage on the fly with fast motion of up to 1200x the original speed. All this makes for a camcorder that helps facilitate speedy, outstanding-quality video capture that can be ideal for broadcast news, sports events, documentaries and other fast-moving recording situations.
Genuine Canon 20x High Definition Optical Zoom Lens
The XA35 Professional Camcorder features a Genuine Canon 20x HD Zoom Lens that provides a highly versatile zoom range with 35mm equivalent of 26.8-576mm, and a minimum object distance of just 23.6 inches (60cm) to help capture newsworthy recordings near and far. The impressive image quality is enhanced by an 8-blade Circular Aperture design, which helps to avoid the ''starburst'' effect of point light sources in non-circular aperture designs. Out-of-focus areas are smooth, natural and appealing. An endless-type focus and zoom control includes user-programmable direction and sensitivity modes. Zoom speed can be set to either a variable or constant (with 16 levels) speed setting, with Fast, Normal, or Slow zoom speed levels.
New, Advanced HD CMOS Pro Image Sensor with Improved Low-light Performance
For incredibly sharp and detailed high-definition video recording, the XA35 Professional Camcorder features a reengineered, 1/2.84-inch, 2.91 Megapixel HD CMOS Pro Image Sensor that captures approximately 2136x1362 pixels. Thanks to the sensor's enhanced sensitivity, the XA35 helps provide vivid, accurate recording through an improved signal-to-noise ratio.
HD/SD-SDI Output
The XA35 Professional Camcorder amplifies convenience with an HD/SD-SDI terminal, whether streaming directly to a broadcast van or connecting to a recorder to make high-quality video recordings for archiving purposes. Designed for professional broadcast use, HD/SD-SDI output provides an uncompressed signal at 1920x1080 resolution with 4:2:2 color sampling and embedded audio and time code.
Built-in Wi-Fi Technology with FTP Transfer Capability
The XA35 Professional Camcorder features built-in dual-band (5GHz/2.4GHz) Wi-Fi technology, enabling FTP file transfer to Cloud-based servers for convenient backups or for situations where a relay station, such as a news truck, is unavailable. The dual bands help ensure that data can be sent even in areas with increased signal interference. It is also possible to connect to compatible networks, wireless hotspots and compatible iOS mobile devices using the free Canon Movie Uploader app, or play back video on the camcorder's memory cards to Wi-Fi enabled TVs and computers.
Wi-Fi technology also allows remote control of key camcorder controls, such as recording start/stop and zoom (in three different speeds), exposure functions (aperture, shutter speed, gain, exposure compensation and more), white balance and focus settings via a compatible tablet or smartphone. The ability to control the camera remotely, such as when using a camera crane, helps improve mobility in various shooting environments.
