Reliable, portable lighting
I've used this durable, reliable unit to take group portraits of dance teams at night in poorly lit stadiums, for on-location portraits, and use it for supplemental lighting in my studio in conjunction with my Elinchrom BXri 500's. The units work well together with the Elinchrom skyport system, and the flashbulbs are interchangeable with the BXri 500 monolights if you are using the "A" or "speed head" with the Quadra. The battery weight is considerably less than the Elinchrom Ranger unit.Note: to use Elinchrom softboxes, you have to purchase a reflector adapter for $95 for each head...guess this is Elinchrom's "gotcha"...

Great, just not strong enough for me
I specialize in snowboard and skateboard photography, including other action sports photography and these lights did a great job at freezing action with the vert fast flash duration. The light weight and portability of the unit allowed me to cary the battery pack and lights in my large camera bag with almost all of my camera gear, making hiking much easier than carrying two separate bags. The ONLY complaint I had is the 400watt/sec max. Shooting during the day in the snow and overpowering the sun was nearly impossible. However, that could have been found out had I done just a tiny bit of google-ing. All around, this is an amazing light kit that would suit the needs of 90% of photographers, affordable price, and great reliability give this light kit a big two thumbs up.

Love my Ranger Quadras!
I use this for studio lighting, but purchased to capture outdoor action shots. I put them in a backpack and take them snowshoeing, skiing, hiking, etc. Can't wait to bring them out to capture kayaking once the snowmelt starts!

The best portable lighting kit available
As a location based photographer lugging and setup of heavy equipment can be problematic or impossible. The Elinchrom Ranger Quadra can be carried on the shoulder or strapped to a stand that can be moved quickly. It has enough power to last for several hundred photos per battery. And works well outdoors in full sun - or in the studio.
