Ive always used Epson printers. I upgraded from the 1800 to the 3800 for several reason. I like that i can print 17" wide, and realy like the larger ink tanks. As a photographer, its much easier to see instant results with larger format printing vs waiting to get it back in the mail. The fact that it is one of the smallest sized large format printers is great if your limited to space for equipment.

This is the first Epson printer that I have owned. Prints are very professional looking. Epson paper is reasonable in cost and gives professional results. And this printer uses very little ink. I am always amazed how little ink it uses for large prints. Great results.

I have two of these and have experienced random cloggings wasting about 100 sheets or more! Took the Printer to an Epson Authorized repair center and was told that it would cost me over $ 500 for the head, I bought the Epson over the Canon because I was told that the Epson head would not need replaced! Not true! Just spoke with the Epson tech and he said that they will all need replacing and there is no set cycles?? Not Happy! Even though it made it to 12,200 prints I am surprized that the head is bad![...]

If your objective is to make high quality prints then this will do the job. Best suited for the enthusiast - not commercial. Best guess at ink price is about [$](or less) per square foot (2 ml per sq ft incl. head cleaning, etc. at 75 cents per ml at MSRP). [...]

The world's greatest images are printed on an Epson.
Designed from the beginning to exceed all expectations in the area of photographic image quality, the Epson Stylus®Pro 3800 incorporates an all-new, compact, 17-inch wide printer design, along with a radical new 17-inch wide printer design, along with a radical new photographic screening technology. And,when it is combined with our breakthrough Epson UltraChrome K3 Ink, it will deliver your creative vision without compromise.
Epson UltraChrome K3 Ink technology has produced some of the world's greatest images. Inspired by our past generations of pigmented ink, Epson UltraChrome K3 incorporates a three-level Black, along with new color pigments that raise the bar dramatically for professional color and black-and-white prints. The standardhas been set.
Even more remarkable, our latest high performance, one-inch wide print head now incorporates a new Auto-sharing Black Ink technology, allowing both Photo and Matte Black ink to be installed simultaneously.
Capable of handling virtually any type of cut-sheet media up to 17 inches wide, the Epson Stylus Pro 3800 incorporates a high-capacity paper feeder that accommodates sizes ranging from 4 x 6 up to 17 x 22. We've developed four different ways to load media, including a front-loading, straight-through path capable of handling media up to 1.5 mm thick and even a second, top-loading, single-sheet feeder optimized for fine art paper.
Imagine producing archival prints with amazing color fidelity, gloss-level and scratch resistance, while providing consistently stable colors that significantly outperform lesser ink technologies. Imagine producing professionalneutral and toned black-and-white prints with higher density levels and virtually no metamerism or bronzing.
The extreme precision of an Epson Stylus Pro print engine, along with the extraordinary performance of Epson UltraChrome K3 Ink technology, results in your image being masterfully printed, without any signs of how it was produced. Prepare to be inspired all over again.
