Great for light painting

Do not expect a sturdy metal case for this price, its a plastic led light. The kit aspect is nice, includes two options for use, two batteries, storage case and a diffusion screen. The bi-color aspect is also a great addition as is the adjustable luminance. The light shows some flicker at the lower power levels that can be distracting. I use it primarily for light painting during night photography and have added some more diffusion material to tone the light down even further. Good value, just keep your expectations in line with what they cost.

I’m really enjoying using this light for photography and video on location at dark venues. The only complaint is that the swivel piece is confusing to use. I like how small and light weight this light is.

I like the light quality, but you can't leave the batteries attached to the device or else it goes dead.

I own 4 of these and have two in my wedding bag at all times! And two for my studio as fill lights along with my Flashpoint CL 1144r Circular Lights! Beautiful light! Love that I am able to create either a warm or cool tone to my images!

a great video light, this is my second one, I just not give 5 stars because of a color difference from my first (bought feel years back) I understand that different batch could have different colors but the difference was a little too much. even them I still love this video light, good price, power and performance. I use for Photos and Video A nice way to keep same WB between both.

Doing lots of macro documentary video required me to get lights and gear very close to the subject(s). I purchased one of these several months ago and found the convenience and light quality to be excellent, so I returned and purchased two more! Get good quality batteries, on a full charge, I was able to use these lights all day long without needing to replace or recharge batteries. At times we stopped shooting and forgot to shut down the lights and I was always pleased to see them still at 90% after 2 hours at 50% illumination. Indispensable for video and I've used them for still photos, but sparingly as they still don't compete with off camera flash units. Very practical 1/4-20 thread so I can put them on tri-pods or stands for perfect placement and distance from my subject. If you're worried about operational longevity, get the Sony batteries! They work in all of these lights and also my monitors, so practical in the gear bag. I don't use these on camera, but rather use them to light the space in creative ways. Would love to see them come with various colored filter options for product photography. The bag is convenient and does a good job of protecting the panels in transit. I thought I would just give these a "try" since the ones I was shopping for were temporarily out of stock, glad I did! Get them, you won't be disappointed. I'll include a product photo I did with these lights, worth a thousand words as they say.

Looks like it will improve the wife's and sister-in-law's selfies overall lighting issues. The images are another matter not worth disputing with them. The battery charger construction leaves something to be desired. The screw posts holding it together disintegrated. There was a rattle and sure enough it was loose plastic.

Great light. You can vary the color temp of the light. bright enough for interviews. Battery life is decent. Had to adapt the base of the ball joint to fit the hot shoe on the camera, but that was the only down side. We normally have those bits but if you don't, that can be a bummer.

LEDs are flickering, the batteries work for approx. 10 minutes. It's rubbish. I had no time to return it (but I should right after the purchase). If you like high quality, try to find something else.

I have only used it few items and had no problem. It is not a professional quality or product but if you need extra lighting for support, it will do it. If you don't want to pay for a higher end product, this will help you in the meantime. I personally don't expect a light support under ($) to last me a lifetime OR I will pay for one that will do it (with the price tag). If I get a year or so for $90, does it for me, especially with new products and technology constantly changing.

I am a still photographer, but have begun using this as a back light outdoors when God's light is hiding. It's so easy to use, and allows me to keep my flash off more. Great product.

This light works nicely as a fill light either inside or out. It is a little to heavy for me to place on camera but fine either handheld or on a tripod.

For one of the new led type cheap lights, it's pretty decent so far. The wrong ac to dc adapter came with it, so that was a drag, but adorama came through with the right one and it works okay. It's all chinese made cheap stuff of course, which is what we get for not wanting to pay much. I have been using it for video and stills and sometimes to light up my back yard. Damn bright things. and to be able to dial in your color temp is magical!

Effective lighting for both video and stills, light weight, good brightness, excellent kit, comes with 2 batteries, charger and adapters for other batteries which makes it a good $ value. Variable brightness and color temperature make it very useful.

I've been using mini light panels for years and switched over to this when they were stolen. These are much lighter and hold a charge well. They are a bit punchy but have a have a great light throw. I wish there was a bit more range on the bi color...

This is the second flashpoint light I have gotten in the last 3 months The other one is a Flashpoint 198 bi color light the price of it was 100.00 with out a battery This one was on sale for 109.00 has 114 more LED's and came with 2 np-f550 batteries, which will also power the flashpoint 198 It has more lights and weights less than the Flashpoint 198 both are made out of plastic but should stand up to years of use, I am a retired TV news photographer and this is the type we used in all types of weather. And added bonus you can use a dc7.4-14.8 adapter and run them on ac if you need to, if you are looking for a low cost but very good bi color LED light you can not go wrong by buying this one.

bought 4 of these a year and a half ago to augment and add to some tungsten lights and flash kits i had. they came with a greenish tint and not quite 3200 or 5600, but useable and it seemed to be expected for the price point... however, less than 6 months after purchase and less than 3 uses one of them started flickering, sent it back for a replacement. now just a year and a half later, the other 3 are having issues, one has only half a panel working, the other two are draining batteries even when they are off... these are useless buy something else.

I shoot (stills primarily) a lot on the run for a local newspaper and tend to use available light. This light has been perfect adding a bit here and there in a dial-able mode from tungsten to daylight with a dimmer switch as well! Portrait of a chef in a kitchen, food plates, small products in a fast and easy to use what you see is what you get fashion. My only con is the battery life. Hard to say, maybe 25 minutes. Otherwise 5 stars!

I used this product for a while as an on camera light. It it amazing. It is lightweight and ergonomic to use. My original concern was that the unit seemed to be cheaply built and had a plastic, almost flimsy feel, but the unit proved to be reliable and well made The color temperatures are accurate. The batteries power the unit at full power for several hours. I bought a second light to mount on a stand and use as a side light or backlight. It is great because it is low profile, portable, and powerful, yet efficient. I will probably be purchasing another one very soon as a three point interview lighting kit.

My very first impression upon opening the box was a bit negative. The product felt cheaply built. Also the batteries didn't slide in very easily, as if the socket for them was not made to the exact proper size. Finally the mounting system was a bit cumbersome and confusing to set right. All that aside I was very impressed with the actual functionality of this light when compared with other LEDs I already use. It has a real true step-less dimmer that can be set to any brightness. The temperature is controlled by having two color lights and a knob adjusts the brightness of them. Even with the tempurater set to the extremes (half the LEDs are off), the light still proved to be very bright and effective. I tested it mainly at wedding during which the ballroom lights were turned of in place of disco lights. I found myself still able to get a very reasonable image using my light without having to raise my ISO. I would definitely recommend getting extra/bigger batteries to go along with this as the ones it comes with do not last very long. I did not give this product 5 stars, but only because of the cheap build. On functionality alone this is the best on-camera light I've used so far and I will probably be getting a few more them.

I have tried the cheap LEDS available on the internet as well as the expensive name brand LEDs. This one exceeded every one of my expectations. This light works great as an on-camera light. Prior to purchasing I spoke to a very friendly and knowledgeable Adorama Product Specialist. Aesthetically, Although it is rather large, it is well designed. At first glance it looks and feels like a lot of soft plastic, but can handle the "stress and rigors" of being an on-camera light for a handheld event videographer. The slim Sony type batteries keep the unit well balanced and even drain power. It is easy to access the color temperature and dimmer knobs, even while recording handheld video. Although it adds weight and throws off the balance, there is a convenient accessory cold shoe on the top, perfect for a wireless receiver. The quality of the light being output is very good. The color temperature seems to be accurate at both the 3200k as well as the 5600K settings without annoyingly harsh color tints. The included diffusion panel is great for softening the light for a more pleasing look. In a dimly lit reception hall, At minimum power, the unit outputs enough light to illuminate a subject 4-6 feet away without annoying glare. At maximum power, the unit can easily illuminate a group of people 15- 20 feet away.

Great lights

These are really good light. I use them for still photography and the images I get from them are really good. I used them as main lights as well as fill light for on location shooting.
Light enough to go anywhere.
Enough light to go everywhere!
Flashpoint's BiColor 312B on-camera portable LED light provides action videographers and still photographers who use DSLR's and HD camcorders with a bi-color wide wash of extended illumination from a standard 60° spread. The precision color temperature dial regulates between 3200-5600K to provide lightening fast solutions for the 'run and gun' shooters, moving from one lighting situation to the next ambient environmental challenge. The twin power options uses almost any capacity industry standard Sony or Panasonic type lithium battery cells and doubles your staying presence in the field. Our LED lights provide visually accurate color temperatures, flicker-free output, and no color shift when dimming. When used outdoors, the small, self-contained LED light produces copious fill light to alleviate deep shadows, while blending ambient available light to add modeling to subjects.
With superior design, this 'go anywhere' device fits comfortably atop the hot shoe of your camera or off-camera via the convenient stand thread. This 312B model offers a clear digital battery power level verification for the ever vigilant. Brightness levels are controlled by stepless control dials on the rear, assure flicker free shooting.
The light can be linked by means of hotshoe type tracks to dovetail on vertical and horizontal configurations with sister units to create a multi-panel power array.
The latest LED technology.
Uncompromised light quality.
Unheard of value.

One of the brightest advances in technology is the advent of the light-emitting diode (LED), a two-lead semiconductor light source. When an appropriate voltage is applied to the leads, electrons are able to recombine with electron 'holes' within the device, releasing energy in the form of photons. This effect is called electroluminescence, and the color of the light is determined by the specific energy band gap of the semiconductor.
Impressed yet? No?
LEDs are small, durable and need little power, so they are used in LED strobe lights or continuous camera lights without detrimental heat output, and operate at a safe, low voltage, instead of the 250+ volts commonly found in Xenon strobe tube-based lighting. This is especially useful in lighting for videographers, where space is at a premium and bulky voltage-raising circuitry is undesirable.
Each LED gem glows with exceptional brilliance of light and human genius that old Thomas Edison would have surely appreciated.
