Review Summary

It's a decent light to medium duty stand. I used one of them for an outdoor portrait session yesterday with an Einstein and 47" Octa on it and the bottom two sections raised up (I would never extend all 3 sections with this setup/lightstand as the light/softbox combo is too heavy for it). There was a bit of bowing. Good stand if you use something lightweight like a speedlight or a Godox AD200, or even a light like an Einstein with just an umbrella. I had a 25lb sandbag on the front leg and a 15lb sandbag on one of the rear legs (braced with super clamps so they wouldn't slide down), along with a Vagabond Mini Lithium battery pack attached to the center column with a super clamp....so around 47lbs of weight on the bottom of the stand and it held it without issue. It's no replacement for a C-stand, but if you need something portable with a lightweight lighting setup (umbrellas only if you need to get the light high in the air, no softboxes), it's decent. In reading other reviews, I'm curious how long the knobs will last.

Good stand for the price. Do yourself a favor and replace the t-knobs and bolts because they'll eventually fail on you (amazon or local hardware store). I bought 2 of these awhile back and both failed within 3 months. One stripped while i was in the middle of session.

I was surprised by the quality! Air cushioning makes you confident that you can walk away without hearing a thud and a crash after you thought you tightened each fitting! These are truly professional. Light stands! Don't be fooled by the low price.

This is their newest iteration; the first set of stands from FP had the nuts/bolts strip out, the current design flaw is that the top collar is threaded onto the tube vs. press-fitted or riveted, so the tube is weakened and the top mount can easily snap off. I have had 2 of 6 of them do it just from being jostled in the bag with other stands. They were replaced, but it was inconvenient. Otherwise they are decent under light use.

The pros: sturdy and affordable. Con: I hate that the legs don't lock in place when open.

Snapped with flashpoint 600 with 42" glow beauty dish in studio. Luckily no one was hurt and no strobe damage. Only recommend it for light strobes or moonlights. If aluminum build was thicker would be a perfect lightstand.

I love it, it's the perfect height and weight and very sturdy. I also appreciate the ability to change the orientation of the top screw attachment.

worked well for about a year and a half. I shoot on weekends usually, light use. 24 inch modifiers usually or bare AD100, but the top section bolt/or nut strips out. They both did it around the same time, not allowing me to use the top section. I may be able to find a work around, but don't usually carry pliers with me to tighten a nut.

For portability and ease of use this stand is 5 star, however, if you do a lot of work outdoors purchase with caution. Granted I am sort of rough on gear as I photograph seniors outdoors in both standard portraits and sports portraits with wind and athlets flying everywhere, but have two stands recently sheer the inner scoping pole off - one when a football player bumped it and once when a strong gust of wind blew the light over and the stand was caught. Lucky in both cases we were able to catch the lights before they crashed. If you are in a studio or controlled environment I would not think there would be any issues.

This specific Flashpoint Pro Air-Cushioned Heavy-Duty Light Stand (Chrome, 13') was fairly solid and held a Xplor 600 SE with a 35 inch parabolic softbox (about 10 lbs. or so) without too much wobble. I'll have to wait to see how it performs on location when there might be some wind. The stand seems to be pretty well built. No issues with knobs, legs, air cushioning, or extension pole. The only thing that bothered me was error of the load capacity and stand weight of the light stand listed in the Specs part of the description on the website. The website listed the light stand's load capacity as "19.1 to 25 lbs." while the product box and product tag that was attached to the stand indicated that load capacity is 13.2 lbs. I ordered this unit for it's load capacity of what I believed to be at least 19 lbs. based on the specs on the website. Also, the website listed the weight of the stand at "3.1 to 5 lbs.". The weight listed on the product box is actually 7.3 lbs. Seems a little misleading for these specs to be that far off, hence the 1 star reduction.

I've only used it once, so far, but this seems like a fairly sturdy lightstand. I love the air-cushioned sections. One of the little plastic plugs at the end of a leg comes out far too easily, but that picking nits. For the price (I got it for about $40) it was a great value.

I am really impressed by this stand. It's not going to be the pride of your studio, but if you are just starting out or need reliable yet portable equipment for portrait shooting on location (my particular application), this is an excellent value. It's got a great price, decent height, reasonably light weight, compresses down to a small size, and it's really solid. The individual tubes are much larger in diameter than anything I've seen at this price. I put a Godox SK400 with a 16x48 strip box on it with no noticeable deflection.

These stands are awesome! They are big and beefy for the price you pay and they will hold up pretty much whatever a small space / studio can ask of them. Pleasantly surprised at build quality and functions/features at such a good price point.

These stands are beefier and sturdier than I expected at this pricepoint. For a small space / studio setup they are more than sufficient to meet all my needs; and I feel confident that they will do the job I ask of them without any concern for the gear they are holding for me.

I had several of the version 1 models and recently received a new v2 model and it's a great improvement! With v1, the top mount was riveted in place and it was always a little loose. The v2 model fixes that, in fact all of the fittings are a bit sturdier while the overall weight remains low. Ordering another one today!

Amazing and solid for the price. Air compression is so nice. I have lights and soft boxes on these and they do wonderful. The price point can't be beat. A lot better than the cheep ones on the other website. For reference the model is 5'3".

Using it for my new GODOX light. Loving an air cushion and durability of the stand. Worth it is money. Good stand is always good investment if you do not want to brake your expensive lights.
Love this stand!

I've already made a review about this stand but I'll make one for the pair I got as well. This shit is wonderful. Its light, very strudy, and perfectly compact. Comes with a padded case and while being stored in the case stands at a mere 34 inches. Perfect for travel packing.
The Flashpoint FPLS9 stand is your ultimate light support tool. Durable and versatile, carefully crafted from the finest lightweight yet sturdy materials, this stand is composed of all the features you need.
A reversible 1/4" or 3/8" screw on a 5/8" stud, perpendicular mounting, large, easy to turn knobs, variable tension, sturdy legs, rubber tipped feet, and lightweight balance and stability all combine to make this your perfect lightstand.
A Reversible 1/4" or 3/8" Screw on a 5/8" Stud means that you can mount virtually any light, modifier, speedlight, or bracket to this stand
Perpendicular Mounting allows you to mount a light sideways off the stand, or to mount a speedlight sideways to get the maximum impact for vertical subjects
Large, Easy to Turn Knobs prevent you from pinching your fingers, give you a better grip, and allow you to lever more torque to tighten and loosen the stand sections, making it easier to raise, lower, and lock the stand
Variable Tension allows you to loosen or tighten the sections incrementally, to safely raise and lower each section
Sturdy Legs made of tubular aircraft grade aluminum will support a maximum load while keeping weight low, and have the perfect footprint to height ratio.
Rubber Tipped Feet prevent sliding and shifting, as well as protecting expensive flooring and dampening vibrations
Lightweight Balance and Stability using high quality but lightweight materials ensures that transporting these rugged stands will not be a problem, and they will support the maximum possible weight with the minimum possible strain to your back.
