Great value for the price
I use this mainly for video. The G2380 head is quite large compare to my Canon HF11 HD camcorder, so the set up is very sturdy. Gitzo says it should be matched with their series 2 tripod, but I would recommend pairing it only with either an aluminum series 2 or a carbon fiber series 3. The heavy fluid head along with the torque exerting on the tripod during a panning movement will make the set up too top heavy for a series 2 carbon tripod. If you want to further improve the smoothness of your video shots, use a remote to control the start/stop and zooming functions. I also attach a loose rubber band on the handle bar and move the handle by dragging on the rubber band, thus eliminating any unwanted hand shakes.

Better for still than video
Bought this several years ago for video and didn't like that it would stick from start up (motion). I'm primarily a still photographer and I now use it for shooting with long lenses (300 and 400mm). It works great for this. Track motion and shoot. The controls are ideally located all on one side. I control them with my left hand.
