These Softar filters come in three strengths and work differently than other "diffusion" or "soft focus" filters. The filters have a large number of smaller "lenses" which each refocus the image rather than using fine crossing horizontal and vertical lines or an optically unclear filter to diffuse the image. The Softar lens does not "defocus" the image but softens lines by reducing the line's contrast. I have found the Softar I to be ideal in softening minor blemishes and unwanted age lines in faces, especially pleasing in portraits of women. The Softar II lens gives a very pleasing softness in landscapes giving a misty effect. Softar lenses can be combined so a Softar I with a II gives a stronger effect of a Softar III. The filters are optically clear so they require no exposure change.
GENE L.
Softar I - III Glass Filters ... Provide controlled image softening with built-in mini-diffuser lenses. Available in three strengths, which can be combined for increased effects. Fits lenses with Hasselblad's Series 60 (Bay 60) filter size. Optimally used with Soft Focus Lenses and may be used at any aperture allowing more depth of field, while the softness is unaffected.
