Well made and great design. Perfect fit for the D850. I had been, and still am, a fan of Really Right Stuff gear, but they did not have their version of this bracket in stock (I bought RRS brackets for my D2X, D3, D4 and D810 and was pleased with them). Saw this Kirk D850 L-bracket was in stock at Adorama and went for it. Glad I did. I do have a Kirk ball head which is also a winner, but never bought a bracket from them. I am very satisfied and will return to Kirk for other products.

Adding the L-bracket enables me to switch from landscape to portrait mode and keep the camera centered over my Manfrotto tripod as opposed to using the Manfrotto quick release set up and having to reorient the camera so that it dangles off the side of the tripod. The L-bracket provides better centering, balance, and functionality. Using a Kirk Arca-Swiss L-bracket also makes for a more secure fit and grip of the bracket to the battery grip. It took me a lot of time and research to find Hejnar Photo Arca Type conversion set that enables the Manfrotto 405 Pro Digital Geared head to use an Arca-Swiss bracket but the end result was well worth it. Also, if you shoot tethered, you might want to add the Kirk LBA-1 USB/AC Spacer Block, which, with the help of a Tethered Tools Jerk Stopper, keeps the cables from being accidentally pulled out of the camera body.
