Used Kirk Compact L-Bracket for Nikon D300 or D700 for use with MB-D10 Battery Grip

Although two of my tripods accept arca swiss type mounts/plates, I couldn't fit this on them. It wasn't as universal as I expected.

Purely a hobbyist photographer but never liked the ballhead use directly for switching between portrait and landscape shots, so decided to go this route some time ago after seeing one in action at a sporting event. Works well with the proper ballhead. The model L-bracket I acquired fits perfectly and does not interfere with the additional Nikon MB-D10 battery grip I operate with. Somewhat cumbersome with two hand hold, however do not fnd it that uncomfortable for what it brings to the table.

I used to move my camera from horizontal to vertical orientation by slipping the tripod head ninety degrees, and then re-leveling the camera while recomposing the shot. I recently switched my tripod head to one that uses Arca Swiss compatible plates. I decided that I would prefer a L-bracket rather than continue slipping the head, and decided on the Kirk L bracket for my Nikon D300 with the MB-D10, which I seldom remove from the camera. I was not disappointed. The bracket mounted easily to the bottom of the MB-D10 with the supplied allen wrench (or the same wrench that came with my tripod head's quick release plates). It does add some minor heft to the camera, but the ease with which one can switch from vertical to horizontal orientation and back again more than makes up for its less than five ounce weight. The ability to access the battery compartment, accessory panel, and all switches with the bracket attached, while still being able to attach and detach my remote release cable adds to its value. There are also markings on the plate for use with either the D300 or D700. My secondary reason for purchasing this bracket was that it is made in the USA. I will almost certainly purchase the Kirk Enterprises' dedicated quick release plates for my 80-400mm and 70-200mm zoom lenses.
