This thing is great for being able to quickly and easily dump a memory card to it in the field without needing anything else.

Been using this drive for about 2-3 weeks and the latest firmware seems to have solved any issues! It’s a dream to use as a photographer. It would be faster with SSD but I don’t really mind the speed as it’s passively copying things. I just insert the card whenever we have a break or at the end of the day and it’s able to do an incremental backup of the data on the memory card. I also have the wireless Passport from WD and this drive even though it’s not wireless is a lot more practical and useful with its clear battery read out and status on the screen for the drive. You never really know what the WD is doing unless you connect with WiFi.

This is an essential tool for anyone who is working in the field without a way to back up. It works very well and is easy to use. The only problems I ran into are battery life and it's a dust magnet.

I currently bring a MacBook Pro to dump video files in the field, but wanted something smaller and more or less automatic. I have tried the Gnarbox before but the storage size was too small and it was a bit finicky. This solution is pretty great. Having 2 TB is plenty of space for copying numerous cards and the easy copy feature just works. The screen is not great, but it gets the job done. The app is fairly well laid out and lets you copy from the Copilot to another connected USB drive to create a second backup in the field as well as copy files from your phone or turn on verification settings. I tested the drive speed via a USB-C connection to a current Mac and got ~130 MB/s for both read and write. It's not amazingly fast transferring to a computer, but it's also not an SSD. I'd rather have the additional storage capacity vs. the faster copy speed since most SD cards are slower than that anyway for field copy. In all, it's a great device. I have copied about 7 full 128 GB cards and battery is at 45% left. I like that it tells you a copy is successful if you walk away and come back after it has completed. Be aware that at least with the current firmware, the USB-C port does not let you copy to the drive - it is only for connection to a computer or recharging the battery. You would need to connect USB devices to the older USB-A connection for the unit to find and copy its contents. Other cons: A bit heavy, I don't care for the removable cover/door that can get lost and it makes you push a button to 'refresh' the drive when you disconnect from a computer, but those are not big issues. Highly recommended if you are looking for this type of device.
