Used Leica R Adapter M - for Digital full frame for R lenses on M

Expensive but useful product for those who have a supply of classic R lenses.

This is a very high quality adapter that requires very close tolerances for proper alignment. It is well known that adapters add inaccuracies to the lenses. Alignment is critical. Leica has nailed this for me, each person should check their lenses and adapters when first using them. Check the corners, the center is always going to be okay. This adapter does not come with any caps, I like to add them to keep the dust from accumulating when not used. There is a pouch, the adapter also comes with an equally substantial and well made tripod mount, when not in use there is a plastic cover that closes off the opening into the adapter and keeps the threads clean, Leica calls this the "Dummy Plug for Thread". A hex wrench is also included to attach the tripod mount to the adapter, the allen key is 3mm, slightly smaller than the common 4mm size used for many arca swiss plate attachment screws. On the SL in combination with the M to L (formerly the M to T) adapter the camera sees the R adapter and allows a long list of R lenses to be manually selected in the Lens Profile. Leica is to be commended for non obsolescence of their superb optics, the better R lenses are only recently (as of 2018) being surpassed by the Zeiss, Nikon and Canon. Using the longer Leica lenses the addition of the SL grip gives greater stabiltiy. The tripod mount does not play well on the SL with the grip attached, the mount and grip press hard against each other, the attached plate or tripod is severely restricted by the grips close proximity , the Leica Adapter L would perhaps be a better solution, the foot has a more forward position. The R lenses (for me) work better on the SL than the M, mostly because the SL is larger and does not suffer from large-lens-small-body imbalances. It is not uncommon to attempt saving money by buying a less expensive adapter, I have used adapters that are well made at a fraction of the cost but the possibility of damaging very expensive equipment is not worth saving a few dollars when my equipment is thousands of dollars. I am welcome the utility of using R lenses on my Leica SL with the M to L adapter I already possess. I really think it is way overpriced for what it offers. Leica seems headstrong to charge what the market will bear.

Got this adapter in order to use a Leica Macro Elmarit R 60 MM on a Leica M 240 P. With live focus, it works very well. It is obviously not as effortless as focusing with rangefinder or on Leica R, But this is a terrific lens, and for the closeup work I do, this is an elegant and typically high-quality Leica solution to doing macro photography with an M.

I inherited two Leica R SLR lenses - an f2.0 50mm Summicron lens and a 90mm f2.8 Elmarit lens. Both of these film lenses can be now used in the digital world on my Leica M camera. With the adapter, I can select the appropriate lens from the camera menu system. With an electronic viewfinder from Olympus, I use both lenses as if I were using a SLR camera.

I'm amateur photographer (www.icsphoto.us), I used Leica R Adapter M with Leica lens 80-200 f4 . I shoot this orchid picture under the ametriopia lights source from orchid exhibition hall in Orchid festival in Santa Barbara California. It is very difficult to take picture. But I feel good when I used Leica R adapter M with 80 200 f4 . Here is a orchid picture I shoot under very bright/strong various lights in exhibition hall.
