The last 50mm I'll ever need
I have used the Leica M9 (and M6) and 50mm lenses for work (art and editorial print) and for play. The 50mm Summilux only leaves the mount to be replaced by the 35mm Summicron (ASPH) when I'm in a really tight space, and need more visual information.
The 50mm LUX is a beautiful lens that, when shot wide open, renders imagery reminiscent of the film days. Stopped down to f/5.6-8, one could only detect the difference in sharpness compared to the latest 50mm ASPH by using mathematical data.
If you can afford it, and shoot something so technical, that every modern advantage helps, then go with the latest 50mm ASPH. Otherwise, this lens is amazing.
Offers amazing sharpness and contrast when stopped down, and is a wonderful tool for creativity and selective focus when shot wide open.
I'll never need another 50mm lens.
