The clarity and detail are great. The camera does equally well as a point-and-shoot and a custom setting machine. [...]

The V-Lux 1 is an outstanding camera, and has all the necessary compensations any experienced digital camera user may want. Lens is superb, and the user options are plenty. Flash performance is exceptional, even lighting and clear results. Its menue is very easy to understand, and offers many choices. The only drawback I found is that the stabilizer function is somewhat limited. At 12x zoom, you need a tripod.

Almost perfect, the main LCD is good but for us that still prefer to use the old school analog view finder this LCD version on the Leica V lux is not the best choice.

Very nice camera to work with. External flash photography is great using the camera in Aperture priority or manual, even with flashes with auto sensors (if You really know how to use the classic flashes with auto sensors) using a Hotshoe to pc converter such as the Nikon AS-15. Used it successfully with the Sunpak 555 or the Metz 45 CT-4, both in auto mode not TTL mode, specially using the bounce attachments. It has the LEICA feel, sturdy, elegant and easy to use. Accessories to buy along with the camera: Extra battery, the DIGILUX Electric cable release CR-DC1 (which fits on the camera, it´s in the manual) to avoid vibrations when camera is in the tripod. The manual could be improved a bit but if You are a reader like me, I would download a couple of manuals from other cameras and clear a couple of functions that are not well addressed on the manual (read it first from front to back and from the back to the front, some doubts will be clear that way). Still need to go to a concert to see how it performs in very low light. Photos of the Full moon turned out great, even using the 4x digital zoom (for a total of 1,680mm) Bottom line: Great camera...

a couple of comments have mentioned that "not good in low light". I would like to recomment you to try use ISO AUTO and Aperture Priority. Secondly, buy a Nikon SB-28 or SB-80DX. They work out perfectly to me.

Night and indoor suck unless you have sufficiant illumination. But, it looks really good outdoors in day time. Anyone know what flash is compatible with this model. I need it for indoor shots from now on.

I've used the v-lux for three weeks and I agree that its a poor night time/indoors camera. The view finders (lcd and eye finder ) turn orange. Its not clear
