Works just like I expected to, and the width of the base is enough that I don't have to use sandbags with my usual strobes and modifiers. One tiny quibble: three of the casters on the two stands I ordered were quite loose. These ship with an Allen wrench to assemble the upright but it's too small for the Allen bolts on the casters - they need a 5mm wrench.

It works well. However the manufacturing is such that in putting it together I had to turn it upside down and bang it on the floor to get the upper rod into the lower rod. Everything is working fine, although there's a bit of sticking as the handle/boom rides over the point where the two rods come together.

You have to figure out how to secure the top connecting pole. Otherwise I am happy with this product

This light stand features unbelievably smooth movement of the sliding arm all the way to the bottom of the pole. My only crib is that Manfrotto does not provide a shorter steel pole as an accessory to accommodate basement studios (like mine) with low ceiling. If and when they offer such an accessory, I would be among the first to buy it!
