Matthews Medium duty light stand

Small footprint means less stability

Given that this is a Matthews light stand I thought this stand would be comparable or better than stands by other manufacturers. The materials and functionality are fine however this stand is less stable in light winds due to the fact that the legs are quite short, much shorter than other aluminum stands that I own and those stands are less expensive. I really do not understand why most (excluding C stands) manufacturers don't make light stands with 46 to 48 inch footprints. Another suggestion I have for all light stand manufacturers is to offer 5 pound weights that snap on to the legs. One 5 lb weight on each leg. With a large footprint and 15 pounds totals weights that are EVENLY DISTRIBUTED the result is great stability.

Light stand for rough use

We're a local TV news station. We abuse equipment. It's in our DNA. We're in a hurry to get video shot and edited for tonight's news, so who has time to pack up the lights nicely? Throw 'em in the back of the car and go. Yes, things get broken. This was a nice replacement. We'll be more careful next time.
