Perfect size camera bag

I bought this larger pack to use for photographing college sporting events. The 36L is the perfect size for my Z8/70-180mm setup and my Z8/400mm setup or Z8/180-600mm setup. I also have plenty of room for extra outdoor clothing. I use the 2 water bottle pockets to carry my monopod and 3-legged mini stool to balance me out (I could easily use the tripod holder as well). With the pack weighing 20-25lbs, the distribution on my back and hips is amazing. Plenty of ways to adjust the weight. I also own the 26L I use for airline travel when I usually have just 1 camera setup and my laptop. The 26L fits under the seat on the plane for easy access or I grab what I need for the flight and throw it in the overhead. I'm very impressed with the design of both packs, the high quality material used and highly recommend this product to any serious photographer.

It is exactly what I needed. Great size for even my longest of lenses and still having plenty of space to add some necessities like clothes and snacks. Highly recommend to anyone that needs a bag for a long lens or for a ton of gear.

This was the perfect bag for a 2 week trip to Kodiak and Katmai Alaska to photograph bears and other wildlife. The interior held a gripped Sony body with attached 200-600mm lens, another body with a 24-70mm f/2.8 lens, a 16-35mm, and a 70-200mm. There was room for rain gear, a monopod, and other accessories as well. This setup weighed around 30 pounds (14.5kg) and although a little heavier than I wanted, the pack was comfortable and balanced.

Amazing bag!

The materials used and thoughtful design make this bag durable and comfortable. As you might imagine, with the capacity, it can get quite heavy. In a recent trip to Kodiak and Katmai Alaska to photograph brown bears, it was loaded with nearly 40 pounds of equipment. Even with that weight, it was still very comfortable to carry.

It's Big!!

Overall quality is great on this bag! Kinda big though. Shipping was fast. Side pockets are great! Love the waist straps. I am a bigger guy and they fit with room.

Roomy and Sturdy

This bag is a great tool in my camera arsenal. It holds a ton and feels comfortable when carrying it on my back with all my gear. It feels like a very well made and durable bag. I researched a lot of other bags and found this to be the best bang for my buck.

Great travel pack.

Took this on my first hike of the year. It holds a terrific amount of gear. Its just about the right size to take on an airplane in the US as a personal item. It will be snug under the seat, just dont overpack it. Easily fit my camera, lens, tripod, 2 light coats, maglight, flannel, water bottle, and bear spray. Its very well made ad, high quality, semi reflective material.

I already had the 26L but needed more room so I bought the 36L to carry a Nikon Z9 with the 180-600 lens attached also a 70-200 and the 28-70

Strong Backpack But Can Get Heavy If Full

This backpack is fantastic, but you need to be strategic with packing it. It has LOTS of space inside, but the downside of being able to put so much kit inside is that when it's fully packed, it is very, very heavy. That said, the various pockets are well placed, the zippers and zipper pulls are strong, and all the straps are comfortable. I appreciate the elastic loops to hold the extra lengths of the straps as well. I felt my camera and lenses were very well protected. I appreciate the ability to swing the pack around and access my gear without taking the whole thing off, but I found it extremely uncomfortable when the pack was full of gear-- I had to take it off and put it on the ground, it was so heavy with all my gear inside. I wanted a large backpack since I do both bird and landscape photography, and each of those types use different lenses, so I wanted to be able to carry all my stuff. This backpack definitely meets that requirement with lots of usability!

Really impressed by this backpack.

I really impressed with this back pack. After watching their video about it before buying it, I will say that they didn't exaggerate anything. It's brand new, but I'm firm on it being a better camera backpack than the previous two I had before. Brands that for the same size are around $100 more. But don't fit a 400mm lens along with the lens hood. And as their video claims, I can fit the same amount of stuff and the lens hood. The large side pockets that are big enough to use to carry a monopod or tripod are definitely as describes. And they have those zip type sync ties that you can close them down and they will stay that way. One thing I didn't know it had until I got it was the straps for securing a monopod or tripod on either the side of the backpack or on back of it, don't just rely on buckles and the friction of the straps like on the waist belt adjusters. They have small latch locks like on tripod or monopods. Which I thought was a great idea. You can easily adjust the slack to fit around a large range of things, and you can lock the straps in and don't have to worry about them gradually loosening because one section of the strap doesn't seem to have enough friction to stay tight. The backpack is broader across the front than my old backpack camera bag. And is a little deeper, which is what allows keeping a lens hood on a 400mm. And just the backpack itself is lighter. But what stood out to me after putting in the same gear as before and then putting it on was that it felt better wearing it. That's one camera body, 400mm lens, 200mm lens, 2x extender, 50mm, monopod, as the main stuff with other things like extra batteries (5D batteries so they're small) any other small things. I don't know what they did, but it doesn't have the same pull on my shoulders. It's better balanced. It's not the difference in weight of the backpacks. When I stand up straight with this backpack, it has a pull across my chest that's better. Much better for if I wanted to go walking around downtown looking for stuff to take pictures of, I wouldn't hesitate to bring everything. Don't know if Adorama likes it if you mention other brands in comparison. but this backpack it far better than both the Lowepro and Tamrac I've had. Which for the same size those are now above $400 I believe. I've had mine for 2 weeks now, so I can't speak on longevity. Just initial opinions. So even if a problem that I had with both the Lowepro and Tamrac arises over time, and that is to buy and expensive item just to have some of the usability disappear because a zipper won't zip anymore, this backpack is still a better purchase than when I bought the others. But I do recommend watching the video about it to hear about all that it has. They put some good thought into developing this.

Now What?

Amazing. You finally buy that 400mm prime and it's just too big for your regular bag. Now what? You buy this one and there is room for the big boy, and a 70-200 and a 50 and two bodies and a tripod, and you're READY FOR ANYTHING! The quality is bomb-proof, the zippers are strong and have rings to get them opened easily in the field, even with gloves. I field tested it in Alaska last week where you don't want to put your bag down in the wet mud, so you just swing around the bag on its waist belt, and boom, a desk-like surface around your waist to work with. Could it be better? I don't see how. Congratulations to the engineers who designed the perfect bag for a wildlife photographer!

Super Bag

The Backlight 36 L photo daypack from Think Tank is an excellent choice for photographers who are looking for a spacious and well-designed backpack. With a 36-liter capacity, it offers ample storage space for camera gear and personal belongings. One of the standout features of the Backlight 36 L is its innovative rear-panel access. This design allows you to access your gear without fully removing the backpack, making it convenient for photographers on the go. The adjustable dividers inside the main compartment provide flexibility in organizing your equipment, ensuring that everything stays secure and protected. Comfort is also a priority with this daypack. The adjustable harness system and padded waist belt distribute the weight evenly, reducing strain on your back and shoulders. The breathable back panel adds to the overall comfort, especially during long shooting sessions or hikes. The backpack's build quality is top-notch, featuring durable materials and sturdy construction. It's designed to withstand the rigors of travel and outdoor adventures, offering peace of mind that your valuable camera gear is well-protected. Additionally, the integrated rain cover provides extra protection against unexpected weather conditions. The Backlight 36 L also pays attention to the smaller details. It includes various pockets and compartments for organizing accessories, such as memory cards, batteries, and filters. Works for Nikon Z9

Thought the 26L might work for my Z9, but was not high enough. This bag fits the Z9 perfectly. Bag as all Think Tank products is well made and of good quality.

The best

I've tried so many back pack bags. I finally found the perfect bag to allow me to travel and still quickly get my camera, switch lens and record an event. I've seen some reviews that don't like the little strap to hold the bag level when open to the front, I think it works like charm. This is the right size for just enough equipment, water and rain gear or a coat, gloves and emergency kit. It was on back order for a time, but as soon as it became available I order it.

Top quality photo bag and back pack - but could still be improved

I've used this bag several times, mostly on short hikes but requiring navigating boulder fields and, overall, am very happy with it. I can get in a lot, 24-70, 70-200, 100-400, tripod head, TT filter pouch, etc) and, with the excellent pack features, the load is feels very manageable. The issue I have (a reason for 4 instead of 5 stars) is that it should be easier to access small items like batteries and lens cleaning cloths. This could be accommodated by adding small pockets to the interior of the large quick access pocket on the back. I'd also like small pockets on the sides which I could use on the side opposite my tripod (which I carry on the side) - it's wasted space as it is. Last, I'd like the back zippered pocket to be expandable (the way suitcases expand) so I could get a sweater, rain parka or Hydrophobia rain cover in there if needed. Lashing them to the outside (thanks for the lash points) just gets it muddy and having to open the pack to access them (when it is starting to rain) unnecessarily exposes the gear.

Finally A Bag That Fits and is Comfortable

So, I have a lot of Think Tank products. Love them all. There is no 1 perfect bag depending on what you. are doing and where you are going. I have also a bunch of other bags from other manufacturers. But none are built as sturdy or with the attention to detail as Think Tank Products. In terms of the Mindshift Series I waited a long time to receive my bag. And finally I can take my gear with me without taking 2 bags. My normal photoshoot is 2 bodies (1 gripped) and 2 lenses maybe a flash or 2 and an extra lens. That is family shoots etc. I don't like changing lenses outdoors. For Landscape I take usually a wide, and standard zoom, and a long zoom. Maybe a drone. Again it all fits. And is easy to arrange. I am not struggling. What is it missing -- the crazy price of the new bags with the bag in bag concept, and a little bit more compartments. I love to top hidden compartment, which I use for my remote trigger and some other items. I can put all the gear on my back and remain comfortable. Maybe removable side harnesses would be a plus.

My Photobag-36L

I am loving my new photo bag the BackLight 36L. I recently upgraded to my Nikon Z9 and needed a camera bag that was deep enough to fit my Z9. This bag works great, fits my camera and lenses, as well as lots of other gear for a day in the field. It is comfortable on my shoulders and hips with the high quality padding. Overall this a quality product and it fits my photography needs. Gina

Great pack

Finally was able to take this pack out. Love the turnaround belt system that allows you to change lenses while the pack is still attached to your hip, that is super handy and keep you on your feet vs laying the pack on the ground. About to take the pack on a month long trip to Europe, I feel it will meet my expectations.

Spacious High Quality Backpack

Bought this bag after some extensive research. I needed a backpack that could hold a Canon EF 500 F4 II with a R5 camera plus adapter all attached. Turns out it fits but the "Cable Attict" needs to be removed otherwise it'll be a tight squeeze. The cable attict is just another divider held in place with velcro inside the bag. Just take it out to gain more internal space. The bag itself feels well built. I only wish there was a larger compartment on top of the bag instead of a small opening for "essentials". The "outside" compartment is large enough.to fit extra clothes or food and snacks, I just wish it was placed on the topside to distribute the extra weight downward and more center to the body. Overall a really nice backpack. The shoulderstraps seems comfortable enough and the hipbelt works and feels great. Great job Think Tank!

Backlight 36L

The item is well made. The idea of swiveling the pack to your front and opening it w/o taking it off with any weight in it is out of the question. I also feel the lens/camera section is deeper than it needs to be. Other than that it is a good pack.

Almost perfect for Micro Fourthirds wildlife kit

I bought the 36L to carry two big Olympus lenses attached to Olympus E-M1 Mk3 bodies for relatively quick access when shooting wildlife. Most manufacturers, Think Tank included, don't show examples of how well Micro Fourthirds gear will fit into their bags. So I did some careful measuring before purchasing, and my measurements panned out perfectly. The smaller version would not have fit, ant the larger one is way too big. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 only because I'm not sure how comfortable it will be for extended hikes. Short walks are no problem.
