This lens was great at first but I've had it for about four years and it's pretty dual. Depth of field isn't that great. It's not a very fast lens either. Not something you want for professional work. It's nice to have when you're new and learning.

This lens came with the Nikon D80 Kit, but I find that I use this lens a lot as the 18-135mm is great for many a uses. I hope Nikon will do an upgrade DX SWM 18-135mm AF-S 3.5-5.6G ED IF VRII NIKKOR Lens.

I had the lens in the shop twice in a 12 month period for repair. I still have it and it works fine as a back-up lens.

This is a great lens I find it good for portraits. I use it with my D40x.

This lens has the range for most regular shooting. Some pincushioning but good colors, sharpness, and a nice bokeh.

Sharp focus, good detail, and low distortion have made this my everyday lens for year. I've had this lens for 4 years and have never really had a problem with it.

I purchased this lens when I found that my 18-70mm was continually coming up too short. In addition to the greater reach, I found it sharper than the 18-70mm it replaced. I use this lens shooting regularly for a large paving company. While the 18-200mm would give even more reach, the 18-135mm is lighter--which is a factor on those long shooting days. I also use this lens when I travel. Not the fastest lens, but for the price I find it hard to beat!

I got this lens used with my Nikon D80 in July of 2009. This is a good lens, not great, but good. first i'll go over the pros then the cons. Pros: Wide zoom range. Good F range. good all around lens. Cons: Bad build quality as in the whole lens just feels like it has a lot of movment. Especial when the lens is zoomed out to 135mm. There is a little ring of paper on the front of the lens between the glass and the filter threads that is just a pain because sometimes when you go to put the lens cap on you will get it caught on there and it will rip the paper. I am not sure the reason for the paper i just find it annoying. This isn't really something bad with the lens just a bit annoying is that the filter sizes. it is kind of large at 67mm so it is more expensive to buy filters for. This lens is a good lens. I do think that Nikon could have done a few things to make it better that would make a huge difference but over all a decent lens.

As an amateur/hobbyist photographer I've found this lens to be the perfect option for me. I have used it for over two years with my Nikon D80 and have never been inclined to purchase another. It's range is great for various situations and it let's me work on the fly without having to stop and switch lenses periodically or carry others around with me. I recommend it for anyone looking to get a nice camera for fun or casual shooting who doesn't want to break the bank on a different lens for every situation.

My husband bought me a D40 for Christmas a couple of years ago and he was very insistent about having spent fair amount extra to upgrade from the standard 18-55mm lens, which he said "the less I say the better." The only flaw in my 18-135mm lens is that it doesn't have Vibration Reduction. We hoped that a VR version would be introduced, but the VR replacement is only 18-105mm, and I really like having the extra reach of the 135mm. This was the perfect lens for somebody who couldn't quite justify spending double for the wonderful 18-200mm, though maybe my hubby will hand his down to me? I LOVE MY NIKON!

I chose this lens because I am a poor individual who can't afford a bag full of lenses. I have it on a D80. This lens has been perfect for close and long shots without having to keep changing lens, which I cannot afford anyway. Its has met all my needs and wants. I recommend it for the money challenged photographer who shoots a wide range of subjects.

I have two of these lenses. One has been repaired twice and the other one three times, for the same problem: wouldn't focus in the 35-135 mm range. Each time cost me ~$80. The lens itself is fine, bot impressive. But having to repair it them so often makes them worthless.

Lense seems to work very well. Pictures are sharp and crisp. The only negative is the corners when using a polorizer. The corners are dark. If you magnify the image slightly, it will get rid of the distortion on the corners.

Comparable to a 28-200mm for a 35mm camera, lens has great "reach" as a semi-universal lens. All images were crisp and snappy at all apertures and focal lengths. A great lens for 90% of what a serious shooter may want to point it at. Lens mount may not be as sturdy as on older Nikkors. Got a little "sloppy" and had to be factory repaired. Also, gasket on outside edge of front element seems to be "flexing" and wrinkling. Images are still top notch, tho.

We purchased about 20 of these lenses for our camera systems after Nikon discontinued the excellent 28-105, which was built like Nikon lens and produced excellent images. It was also $70 cheaper! For the price, this lens is well below Nikon standards. It should be only sold as an Amateur lens packaged with entry level Nikon cameras. The lens mount is an embarrassment, so weak that it causes lack of contact and error messages. This can occur while you are zooming the lens by putting stress on the mount. If the lens is used primarily at the middle zoom range the images are fine. At wide angle and maximum zoom, sharpness and distortion become an issue. We have also experienced inconsistent exposures with one (so far) of these lenses-- one half to sometimes a full stop underexposed. The lens had to be sent for repair. I would not recommend this lens to anyone but a casual user. I am anxiously waiting for Nikon to discontinue this lens and replace it with one worthy of their name.

From wide to tight this lens is great, sometimes I would like to reach a little further, looking at the 70-300mm vr for the longer range stuff, and the 50mm f/1.8 or f/1.4 for fast 1:1 shooting. Again this one is great for General all around use. I can truly shoot most of what I want with this lens.

Was looking to get a lens with more reach than the kit lens (18-55) that came with my D40. For bang for the buck I am very pleased. Pictures are just as sharp if not more so than the 18-55 and I have the reach that I am looking for. It is light weight and feels good on the D40 body. The only thing is that when zooming it is not as smooth as the 18-55 or the 18-200, however you get use to it. Very pleased!

This lens is exactly what it sounds like: A good all-around lens. I find that it's a really good range, too. This lens is extremely sharp. It might not be perfect, especially not in some other areas, but you will be pleased with how sharp it is. I find that it does not take it's time focusing, and generally, is extremely fast. I'm not sure of how durable it is (though it seems and feels well-constructed) because I take care of my things. It's not perfect, of course. Not that great of an aperture range, but hey, this lens is just [$].I bought this lens over the 18-200 VR for a couple of reasons: less distortion, this lens is a lot faster in the AF, and it's half the price.Bottom Line: If you want a good all-around lens so you can just walk around and take pictures, this is the way to go. This one lens won't get you all of your shots, but it will get 95% of them.

This is a great walking-around lens. It is very sharp, lightweight and covers a nice range, which makes it very convenient for travel photography. It is also great for somebody who's learning photography, since it's very inexpensive yet can be used for almost any shooting situation. There's some distortion but it's nothing that Photoshop can't fix easily. Yes, it does have a plastic mount, which a lot of people complained about, but hey, it is a 350 dollar lens. Overall I think it is a great lens for the price.

This lens came as part of the kit for my Nikon D80. It is quick to focus. The lens produces fairly sharp decent photos. No real complaints about the lens.

I got this lens and it is a really good all round lens with one BIG exception. It has a plastic mounting ring!!!!!! Mine snapped (Dropped). You cannot get a replacement and now the lens is useless. this one flaw ruins the whole lens. NEVER BUY A LENS WITH A PLASTIC RING!!!!!!! A real shame on an otherwise great lens.

Seemed like a decent general purpose lens until "no lens attached errors" appeared. The lens construction is flimsy. There is a lot of play between the front and back of the lens and between the lens and the camera. Loose attachment to the camera causes the lens to intermittently not make electrical contact with the body, especially below 60 degrees.

This is a great all around kit lens. I've had it for nearly a year and use it more than any other lens. It's extremely sharp and has a lot of contrast. It focuses close enough to almost be a macro lens. It has a little bit of chomatic abberation that is easily cleaned up in post, mostly blue fringing. I had an 18-200 VR but prefer this lens for its eye-popping results.

This lens is very very sharp. It has some pincushion and CA but it's correctable in post. It's also extremely close focusing, not quite a macro, but close enough. It's not a pro-build, but it's sturdy enough. Did I say it was sharp?

I LOVE this lens. Its the kind of thing you might not be looking for, because you think you have most of the range covered. But when you feel it, touch it, use it, YOU MUST HAVE IT!
Designed exclusively for use on Nikon DX-format digital SLR cameras, this new and extraordinarily versatile AF Zoom-Nikkor lens is perfect for an extremely wide variety of shooting situations ranging from tight sports, action and portraits to wide-angle landscapes.
For practical purposes, photographers will enjoy picture angle performance that approximates that of a 28-200mm lens on a 35mm film SLR. Advanced Nikon engineering, in particular the compact Silent Wave Motor, has enabled a highly compact lightweight design with excellent handling characteristics.
The optical design features a Nikon ED glass element and two hybrid aspherical lens elements, assuring high-resolution, high-contrast images while minimizing chromatic aberration, astigmatism and other forms of image degradation.
The lens' compact Silent Wave Motor offers wonderfully fast, smooth and quiet autofocus performance. Debuting with the D80 and available at significant savings when packaged with the D80 body, the quality and versatility of the 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6G lens helps put the Nikon D80 in a class all its own.
