Excellent Lens

This lens does not disappoint in any category. It is sharp. It focuses fast. It has great bokeh and color rendition. The only downside is it is too heavy! Definitely a lens you will use with a monopod or tripod.

Nothing better!

I have owned the AF-S 300 f/2.8 VR and it was an excellent lens, but after trying another photographers AF-S 200 f/2 VR, I couldn't get over the differences. The 300 was a great lens, but I sold it and bought the 200. Here's why: The 200 simply destroys the backgrounds of your photos in such a smooth, buttery way that nothing I've ever used can touch it, period. You can isolate any subject you wish and have nothing for background but pure blur. Even wide open, which I shoot the most, the 200 is already sharper than the 300 was wide open. Stop down a bit and it gets outstanding. At any aperture from f/2 to f/8, anywhere from center to corner, your shot is as sharp as it gets. Also, there is nothing like it when you absolutely need "f/2" instead of "f/2.8". Even though the 200 and 300 are close to the same weight, the 200 balances much better being shorter and more compact. The weight is heavy for some people, but it doesn't bother me near as much as the 300 did. The autofocus is dead-on and super fast, faster than I've been able to overrun, even for sports or birds-in-flight. There is no way you can take a bad photo with this lens, it's that simple...and I use it on DX as well as FX Nikons.

Unbelievable lens!

I had the AF-S 300 VR f/2.8 lens and wanted the AF-S 200 F/2. After using both of these lenses for a week, the 300 f/2.8 was sold. It was a great lens, but it didn't compare to the 200 f/2. The 200 was sharper at all apertures I mostly use, more micro-contrast, the bokeh made my 85 f/1.4 second-best and of course the 300 can't do f/2. It's a bit heavy, but I handhold at all times and I'm in my 60's. The balance of the 200 f/2 on the D300 and D700 was far better than the 300 also. I almost didn't get this lens, but I'm sure happy I did. I would definately buy another if anything happened to this one.

The 200vr 2.0hhh

I am using this lens for, people and landscape/nature/cityscape type photography. This is a professional piece of equipment, from the moment you unbox it you know you are in possession of a special lens. The looks you can achieve make it very versatile, but be forewarned, it is hefty.

Fast & Sharp

One of Nikons best. If you need a 200mm prime this is the best! Sharp & I do mean SHARP. Great OOF elements very contrasty & wonderful color replication. You might consider this a specialty lens but once you use it you are going to invent ways to use it. An expensive lens but the quality is there.

WOW!

This lens is everything they say it is! What a fantastic piece of glass for portraits (phenomenal bokeh) as well as in low light situations (sharp at f2). Expensive but well worth it when you get that shot!

The AF-S VR Nikkor 200mm f/2G IF-ED has a myriad of applications for all kinds of photographers. Many will find uses for its expressive quality of emphasizing subjects in portraits by rendering background elements completely out of focus, while others will use it for its large aperture, superb clarity and immense potential with VR technology for shooting in low light conditions or from moving platforms,

Nikon's Super ED glass elements excel at correcting chromatic aberration and eliminating secondary spectrum to produce outstanding image resolution and clarity. While the optical properties of this new glass closely resemble those of fluorite, Super ED glass is more resilient to rapid temperature changes (thermal shock) and not as susceptible to cracking as the crystal structure of fluorite. Super ED glass also boasts a higher refractive index than fluorite, making it highly capable of correcting aberrations other than chromatic aberration. It also demonstrates less change in optical characteristics than fluorite when exposed to severe temperature variance, ensuring consistent performance even under extremely harsh shooting conditions. Additionally, the unique composition of Super ED glass ensures consistency in optical properties and performance, enabling applications in a variety of lenses including those with very large apertures.

The AF-S VR Nikkor 200mm f/2G IF-ED lens incorporates clever new features. A switch located on the bottom of the lens gives swift access to the AF-L (Autofocus-Lock) function, which allows a desired focus position to be easily preset. The same switch can also be used to access the AF-ON function enabling photographers to achieve more subjective focus with fine manual manipulation. The switch can also activate the lens to revert back to the preset focus position whenever desired.

Nikon's advanced VR technology eliminates image blur caused by camera shake, particularly when shooting in low-light conditions, allowing photographers to use shutter speeds up to three stops slower than they would ordinarily use to get sharp, well exposed images. VR performance is further augmented in the AF-S VR Nikkor 200mm f/2G IF-ED by a VR selection switch that enables photographers to choose between two different VR modes to best suit the subject at hand - Normal mode is ideal for most common shooting conditions, panning, and use in combination with a tripod. Active mode, as its name suggests, is better suited to conditions involving more movement, such as shooting from a moving vehicle or platform.

he AF-S VR Nikkor 200mm f/2G IF-ED is compatible with all Nikon teleconverters, including the newly announced AF-S Teleconverter TC-17E II - the first teleconverter to offer 1.7x performance in a compact, lightweight package
