High Performance, Small, Point and Shoot

The Nikon P330 point and shoot is my pocket camera of choice due to its combination of size and resolution. When used properly, it will produce DSLR quality results. See the attached portrait taken at a shutter speed of 1/160, an aperture of f/4, and an ISO of 160.

best high end compact for <$200

among the high end compacts out there, picture quality on this one is 2nd only to the Sony RX-100 (which is ~3x the cost of this). Lens is fast (when shooting wide aperture) and picture quality is outstanding, superior IMHO to more expensive models such as the Lumix LX7 and Canon G15. It's a bit thick to be truly pants pocketable, but about as good as it gets for a large sensor high end compact.

Great Pocket Pro

Took this camera on a vacation to Sweden in the extremely cold month of January 2014. Didn't have time to "learn" the camera since I took it new, straight out of the box. Realized what the camera could and couldn't do in the first hours of shooting - it is a point and shoot after all. After the first day of "testing" I discovered: 1. The correct flash to subject distance for ultimate flash coverage. 2. The extreme value of the Hand Held 3-exposure Night Setting. 3. Focusing with telephoto - going past minimum focus distance. 4. Using the macro setting properly. 5. And if I was lazy, switching it to Auto Scene Mode. This camera took awesome night shots on our subarctic cruise in extreme weather. I also used the Sports mode extensively for higher shutter speeds and for rapid fire captures. The video feature, perfect. After 3000 captures, I say: "What a fantastic camera." And: Nikon brand batteries are way cheaper than Canon - I took 3 batteries. Only thing I didn't like was the "Raise the Flash" warning that popped up every time I used the Auto Scene mode - a complete nuisance feature for this camera that cost me some important captures while waiting. By the way... the pics turned out extremely sharp and the colors awesome.

GPS Disappointing

I purchased this camera primary for the GPS function packaged in a pocket sized format for travel photos. Unfortunately, the GPS position acquisition time is so long, or not at all (even with valid A-GPS file loaded), that the feature is unusable for normal point and shoot use. I had recently taken the camera on a pleasure trip to Chicago and was unable to obtain a GPS fix in Millennium Park (unobstructed satellite views) even with the camera turned on for over 10 minutes. Out of the 100+ photos taken on the trip (indoors & outdoors), only one photo was geotagged; completely unacceptable. As for the photo capturing abilities, the P330 does a great job in low light and in general walking about snapshots. Auto white balance under fluorescent lighting has a green tint, but is fixable with manual menu adjustments. Overall, a very competent camera packaged in an attractive size. If the GPS worked this camera would get a 4-5 star rating.

Great point and shoot with lots of manua

Coming from a Nikon D600 and D700 the P330 is a joy to use as far as P&S goes. It has a ton of manual control and great IQ. Build is very good and the lens is excellent with a nice wide 24mm to a moderate 120mm. Overall the P330 does everything I want in a small take with me all the time camera.

Outstanding features and picture quality

Looks like Consumer Reports got it right this time. This sub-compact is great for us. Got this for my wife to carry in her purse everywhere she goes. The larger sensor and 1.8 lens will let us shoot indoors without flash. The menu is the best we have seen on a cam this size and believe me, we have tried many. The easy to access mode changes are so convenient. Makes it easy to change shutter speed and f stops with the A and S settings. Just like our DSLR cams. The video mode works for us and I'm pleased with how well the auto focus keeps up with composition changes. we are very pleases with this camera.

Best point and shot in its category

I own a P300, the first model of this camera lineup and recently purchased model p330 for my wife. Excellent handling, excellent low-light performance for a camera in this category. The new P330 model is impresive in features and the user interface is intuitive and easy to get used to. It does have HDR in the backlight menu and many of the processing options in the scene menu, but once you scout the different functions it results easy to remember where to find them. I use this camera as my backup when I don't want to carry around my DSLR and it is formidable in picture quality. If you want something better, then go for something larger, more expensive like a ILS, but in the P&S category, at this size and for the price it will be difficult to get a better camera. If there were one thing I'd wish were better in this camera is the low battery indication. When it shows it will allow to get only two or three more shots before the camera dies. It would be desirable a gradually reducing indication or a decreasing shot counter.

Slow to lock on focus in anything but good light.

Good IQ , excellent quality build, excellent movie mode . The two big complaints are: 1.......... slow to focus in typical indoor room lighting in the evening . 2..........slow processing of raw images in camera .

Great output for class, slow handling

I purchased this for a "carry-everywhere" camera. I had come from the S90 previously, so I was expecting something similar to that. First of all, this is a very useful zoom range - 24mm-120mm equivalent is great for walkaround / travel. No complaint whatsoever about lens range and quality, especially for something so pocketable. The 24mm equivalent is good stuff! The lens stabilization is also best in class. The output from it is very high quality - outdoors, in good lighting. The output from it in low lighting is decent, comparable to the rest of the class. This probably has the best overall sensor for its class. The build quality is also outstanding for a pocketable camera - I expect this will last for a very long time, it is built like a tank. So where does this fall down? Speed and handling. You have to really work for the good output this is capable of, and it requires tons of patience. This may be one of the slowest compact cameras I have used - Write speeds are slow, even with explicitly supported UHS-I cards. Menu navigation is extremely slow, I'd go as far as to say unacceptably slow. Changing ANYTHING has a rather extraordinary lag time. Focus is really poor for a modern camera... It often takes multiple attempts to refocus in anything but the best lighting, and even in excellent lighting, it misses more than it should. The other large problem is with handling. I really enjoy being able to set dials to functions that I use often - For example, one for exposure compensation, and one for white balance. This combo is EXCELLENT for a compact camera, as those are the two you are most likely to need to change - Aperture isn't as important with a camera this small, for example. Unfortunately, you are stuck with what the dials do - In most shooting modes, they are fixed with the rear dial set for aperture, the top dial set for shutter speed. There are workarounds to a point, like using the "food" scene mode for example- that will give you easier access to white balance. This comes as a compromise, as it takes other settings out of your control. The camera is very technically capable for a compact - And has a class leading sensor, ND filter, etc. It also has advanced modes like multi-burst noise reduction as well as built in HDR. However, these are only accessible via scene modes - which means that you have to know that "night shot" grants the multi-burst noise reduction, and you have to know that "backlit" grants the HDR mode. And therein is the largest problem with this camera - It's extremely capable, and has a ton of advanced functionality, but you can't get to most of it based on what it actually does - You must know the scene mode, and navigate the slow menus to get there. All of this together takes what should be an excellent camera, possibly the best compact in the market, and cripples it. Maybe I'm too picky, maybe I expect too much. If you are just sticking it in auto or using a few scene modes, this will probably be good for you. Having used several advanced compacts, I'm not impressed.

The take anywhere camera, guaranteed not to dissappoint

As an avid Nikon DSLR photographer, I was looking for a Camera that I could take anywhere without carrying all the bulk, but gives great results and flexability with manual controls and Raw imaging . Look no further ! Go get it. I did and love it to death. This feels good looks good acts good. Nothing bad to say about this purchase. Well worth it over the other point and shoots(pocketable sizes) with the Brand name starting with "C". Just amazing nothing else need be said

Great camera with lots of features and adustment possibilities

As soon as I unpacked the P330 I fell in love with it. The camera has that quality touch and feel that you normally get from a SLR camera of good quality. The addition of the primary functions P,S,A, and M are exactly what was missing on my other Coolpix cameras. These settings can overcome the situations that the Auto function can't. The picture quality is superb. The lens with an f-stop of 1.8 is super and the range of the lens 24mm to 120mm is perfect for most general photography. All I can say is, that I love this jewel.
