What sold me on this camera was the touch screen. With our iPhone generation, everything is now becoming an extension of our fingertips. I own several Nikon SLRs and thought I should stay in the family and purchase a simple digital point and shoot. The camera is thin and sleek. It's touch screen is big and is the only thing on the back except for a play button. It's light. The touch screen is pretty intuitive and neat. You can set the touch screen to act as the shutter release or as a point of focus - even if you move the camera to crop for a better shot. To test this camera out, I took a few snapshots of a friend's band performing in a dark bar. The Nikon struggled to find and focus on a subject. Once I was able to have the camera focus (after using it's touch screen AE\AF option), the moment passed and I waited for the camera to respond to the depressed shutter release button. Pretty frustrating. This camera, marketed for Mothers Day, has a shutter lag that will frustrate even the most casual camera user. Mothers looking to photograph their children blowing birthday candles out (think dark room with candle light) - forget it. The camera is unresponsive for those few precious seconds and ironically fires it's flash as the moment passes. In daylight the camera reacts a little better. Shutter lag is still noticeable without the struggle to focus on a subject. The LCD screen seemed bright enough during the daytime. As someone who see's a shot and wants it when the moment is right, I cannot afford to play the waiting game.[...] My last point and shoot camera was a Canon Digital Elph and I had no qualms about the shutter lag. Spending the extra couple bucks is worth having the shot I want.

The Nikon Coolpix S4000 Digital Camera produces images with up to 12.0 megapixels of resolution, and incorporates a 4x wide-angle zoom lens. The 27 to 108mm lens allows you to take large groups in a tight space, and also capture subjects in the distance.
Shooting in low light is not a problem with Nikon's exclusive 4-way VR Image Stabilization technology that utilizes Electronic VR Image Stabilization, along with the cameras high sensitivity equivalent of ISO 3200, Motion Detection, and the exclusive Best Shot Selector (BSS). This ensures that your photos will always look great - regardless of lighting conditions or subject movement.
For difficult image situations the camera offers 16 different scene modes. If you are not sure which to choose the Scene Auto Selector will make the decision for you. Nikon's Smart Portrait System ensures beautiful portrait and people shots by combining Nikon's innovative smile mode, Blink Warning, In-Camera Red-Eye Fix, D-Lighting, Skin Softening, and Face Priority AF technologies. Furthermore, the S4000 includes Nikon's Coolpix Software Suite for organizing, editing and sharing your photos.
The bright, high resolution 3.0" LCD Touch Panel provides a wide viewing angle and an anti-reflective coating that allows for easy composition and viewing of photos even in direct sunlight. With Touch Shutter and Autofocus simply tap the LCD to have the camera focus and even shoot the picture. You even have retouching and drawing functions for quick, convenient in-camera enhancements and personalization to any image. All of these features make the slim design Coolpix S4000 the camera to take with you everywhere you go.
