Great pictures, great camera!

I was so surprised reading the reviews. I wonder how much the reviews could help to a future customer. I owned this camera since April 2011. I bought it in LA Best Buy. I bring this camera to every single trip. I may have more than 50 thousands pictures that were taken with this camera. It is a great product! A few options allowed you to capture a perfect picture without being an expert photographer. Even more... I was riding a bike in Ecuador and I fall down and my camera was exposed to the hit. It didn't work few minutes later (the lens didn't closed completely) but after crying and rapping it, started working again... I also can hear something lose inside the camera (it is like a rattle) but I still can take great, colorful and sharp pictures. Best camera I ever owned. Great device that you plug in to recharge the battery.

s9100 so far so great

I read the negitive reviews then the postive one i took a chance and bought it in 2012 for half price this is my first travel zoom camera. It does come with the sort of a brif owners manual summery what the camera does and a true owners manuel on a cd u can download it on your pc.Yes i do highy recommend that u read the manuel to compleaty understand the camera it is automatic camera for picture taking but when u get blured pictures u know what cause it and how to fix it. like is the viberation setting right is it in hybird mode or normel or off? is the motion dection on or off?? that has help me to get clear picture in the outher setting like night landscape,,,,night portrait,,,,,,backlighting,,,,,u have to know how to set this. gettting great pictures when you are in the settings u hit menu to bring extra settings u pick and choose what u wont then exit snap and look at the result i will say i do high recommend getting a small tripod i got a joby--gorilla tripod and set the camera on it and snap your pictures this tripod has made a huge differance in these settings i also recommend getting a extra battery when u do video and flash it drains it pretty fast so its nice to have a spare also noted to i talk to a camera professional about the differance between class6 and class 10 cards for this camera what he said was class 10 if you plan on doing more video then photo and u plan on editing that video to splice it together to make like a small flim but if your going to take mostley photos then a class 6 would do fine but look at the writing speeds get the highiest u can so i got a class 6 sandisk extream card it writes a 30x so far it has work wonderful the camera has not froze up or slow responce nothing so if that helps any ? before i finshed this camera has a digtel zoom feature to this feature steps down your pixil rate and increase your f/stops it also crops your picture to so u are at the maxium zoom length and snap a picture it may not turn out clear or look right u might have to do this trick i learn set on the tripod and set the slef timmer for 2sec get your picture where u wont it at then hit the shutter let the camera start the timer and let it snap it and see what u got it has help me get some decent pictures but i turn my digtel zoom offf and it has never faild to delever a great picture now i know i havent meation about video about this camera well i dont use it for video i use it for pictures nikon s9100 it is a great camera but read the manuel to get the best out of it

Battery goes dead too fast after displayed on monitor

I always had canon camera's but figured the nikon name would be a good try. I actually started using my old canon again, its more reliable and user friendly. The battery on the nikon goes quickly if you take a video, what's up with that? And the camera wasn't cheap either. I guess I'll stick with what works for me and thats Canon. Sorry

Turn off Auto Mode

I understand the frustration with blurry pictures with this camera. When set to Auto Mode, I have the same experience. I've been able to overcome this by: 1. Take it off "Auto Mode." 2. Turn off "Digital Zoom." 3. Turn the dial to "SCENE" (not Scene (Auto)). 4. Press the Menu Button and select the type of scene you're shooting. It does a remarkable job when you tell it what you're shooting. If you want a true point and shoot, this probably isn't the camera for you. If you're willing to take the time to let it know what you want, I think you'll be pleased. I purchased this camera for backpacking and have been happy with the results. If it were possible to give multiple ratings, I would give: 1 star - Camera in Auto Mode 5 star - Camera in SCENE mode 0 star - Nikon for making no effort to clear this up with firmware update.

I read all the great reviews but not for me..

I have only used Canon and love canon however I decided to go with Nikkon this time becuase this camera got great reviews and it was a great deal plus the store manager recommended it. There are a lot of features I do like about it such as the zoom. Canon does not have a camera in this size with this zoom. So big plus on this camera. I also like that I was able to figure out the special effects quite easily. I never quite got it with canon had to go through many menus. However, sometimes if I don't have the flash up the picture comes out blurry some pictures are not taken as I point and shoot it seems like it's a delayed picture that ends up coming out blurry and if I want to shoot a lot of images back to back I get blurry images as well I don't know if it's to slow. I'm not technologically savvy so maybe there's something I'm missing or have not adjusted but I'm not all that thrilled about that. I've missed many great moments because of this camera and waiting for it to be ready to take the shot.

Freezes

Camera freezes often. I have to remove the battery to reset and turn on again only to have it to freeze again will not allow me to turn off or any thing until I remove and replace the battery again.

Out of FOCUS

Purchased the s9100 camera in Dec. 2011 and I'm generally disappointed and frustrated with performance. Some photos are good but frequently, perhaps even most of the time, the auto-focus does not work properly and misses the crisp focus that the optics are capable of achieving. The result is way way too many out of focus images. The improper focus is even clearly apparent on the LCD screen. Nikon should fix this problem ----- obviously many unhappy users.

best idiot proof camera ever

I have always had Fuji digital cameras and swore by them,,,Then I went out and bought this Coolpix 9100 and WOW. What an easy to use excellent camera,,,thats shoots great Hd video in slow motion or many other mods. The pix taking is fairly simple with excellent results even in low light. The macro mode is not the best,,but I never use this mode much anyways. A pefect lil idiot proof camera for the all ready familiar with digital photography type of person. Would not suit a new to digital photography type person. Excellent battery life and very easy to use charger and software,,a pure pleasure.

this camera take outstanding pictures, but for any pitures taken within 5 ft, you have to be patient due to its large zoom.

Excellent camera, I just wish it had a RAW mode.

I'm not quite sure why so many people have so many difficulties getting beautiful, sharp pictures from this camera. Perhaps it's the long lens, which in anything but bright light requires near tripod-level stabilization to not blur, but I've never had any issues taking a multitude of photos, some in very low light, with no blurring. My favorite use for this camera is concert photos - I've taken this camera to many concerts and have been able to take spectacular shots from several rows back that make you feel like "you are there.," though I usually need to set the auto exposure to -0.7 stop to avoid washout of highlights. I just wish that the camera could shoot in RAW mode as there are times I know post-processing could produce better images than the JPG encoder built into the camera.

i'm sorry, but this product is just plain horrible. I only like the flash with the pictures and the HD video. Everything else, no, just, no.

Poor Camera / Out of focus

I purchased this camera through Best Buy before our first ever trip to Hawaii. Hate to say it, but the camera took more blurred pics than not. I sent it back to the factory prior to Chrismas. When it came back it displayed the same problem. I can only hope, but am doubtful, that the problem gets fixed this time. I bought the special warranty coverage from Geek Squad but have been informed It has to go back to the factory 4 times to be eligble for replacement. Needless to say, I will never reccomend this camera and hope that Nikon removes it from the market. I chose Nikon based on reputation of optics. I will never choose another one based on the performance of this model

Blurry photos

I had the same experience as many others. Blurry photos after a nice vacation. Sent the camera in for repairs and it seems to have improved slightly. But image stabilazation is still very poor. Not as good as a much cheaper camera I own.

Blurry Pictures and all out of Focus

I'm in the same boat as numerous other people. Considering Nikons reputation for good cameras this one simply doesn't live up to the Nikon name. Pictures taken are consistently blurry and out of focus even when there is no movement in the subject you are taking. To me the idea of a point and shoot camera is just that, you point at the subject and click. With this camera however you consistently end up with blurry and 'out of focus' pictures, at all zoom levels. We have missed numerous photo opportunities with this camera. I cannot recommend this to anyone, I am very dissappointed with the results. I also find it dissapointing that despite numerous other people also suffering from the same problem Nikon don't appear to acknowledge it as an issue at all.

A great point and shoot camera. I take a lot of pictures/videos of my Golden Retriever and the many deer that visit my backyard. Quality is excellent, camera is easy to use, and small enough to fit into my coat pocket. The only camera you'll every need.

My very own wonderful digital Cam.

I thought this was great, I'm still learning alot about it. It's so useful to me, as an outgoing college student. Photos are sharp and easy to edit. I video edited for the first time and the video came out great ! Oh my goodness, I can't wait to try out other things with it . The thing I don't like is that the manual isn't very helpful, because if I tried to mimic the procedures, I wouldn't get the results that the book said I'd get. So, sometimes I have to manipulate it differently to get the results I want. This just means, there are no short cuts. Some options I wont use, because .... I clearly have no idea what it's used for, or I feel like it was the same as the last option. Overall, this was worth the price ! =] I'm going to treat this thing like a baby, because I love it . =]

Excellent travel zoom

This little camera only lacks of manual adjustments( exposure/speed priority), but I believe most negative reviews are people who didn't read the manual, it has several features and options to get excellent pictures and the zoom is awsome (obviously zoom compromises sharpness, but this is not the point, you get a 18X zoom in your pocket!) this is a P&S camera with a huge zoom (ideal for travel) the flexibility and size you obtain is invaluable. I also use some canon and nikon SRL's and a small p&s.

Into the future...

After having a Casio camera for 6 years, I got this COOLPIX S9100. Though I only have my old Casio to compare it to, S9100 is crazy! Sure, you can get a blurry picture if you rush the shot, but if you press down on the shutter slowly, wait for it to focus, and then complete or fully press the shutter, your pictures will come out great! The menu is user friendly and the effects are great. Since I got the camera (2 weeks ago), I took over 800 pictures (had a lot of events to attend)...indoors and outdoors all came out great. The 18X zoom, however, is a hit or miss but I'm used to that b/c the digital zoom had the same results with my Casio. I think any digital zoom will have the same results because it's just too sensitive to motion. Perhaps if you have a tripod and you use digital zoom, you may have more hits than misses. Taking pictures with the camera facing the sun...no longer a problem. If you adjust your settings, the S9100 can overcome this problem. Video is also a plus, sound and video quality almost as good as real time. Overall, I'm not a professional photographer so I'm not looking for absolute perfection, I'm very satisfied with this camera.

Fantastic photo,s from such a user friendly little point & shoot camera !

From the moment that it was removed out of the box and reading the quick start info, this camera just performed absolutely flawless in every respect. Other review's that I have read made this machine sound like a complete disaster but I'm totally convinced that their result's was just a simple cause of a mere operator error in every respect. The whole layout of this model is so easy and simple to use and understand that if your result's are terrible, I can't imagine what your pic's would look like if you were operating a less inferior camera of a different brand. All aside, this model from Nikon is the best point & shoot camera that I have owned and I've had a few. My hat's off to Nikon for such great innovative technology !

  • When traveling on an exotic adventure, you can't afford missed photo opportunities. You'll find Nikon's Motion Detection feature to be important because it identifies moving objects and automatically adjusts shutter speed and ISO to assure crisp, blur free images
  • Nikon's Best Shot Selector automatically takes up to 10 shots and saves the sharpest image. ISO speeds up to 3200 will help you capture great shots in low-light. Blinking eyes and red-eye can ruin portraits. That's why the Coolpix S9100 includes Blink Warning
  • It offers in-camera Red-Eye Fix that automatically corrects red-eye as you shoot and Skin Softening that smoothes skin tones
  • The Coolpix S9100 also has Macro Shooting for shooting as close as 1.6 inches. And, when you're in remote regions, you'll appreciate the camera's 270-shot rechargeable Li-ion battery
