I find it works well after I learned to align it with the lens. There seems to be a little catch on turning the hood onto the lens, which I like. Hopefully, it will prevent the hood to get loose and drop off.

I got this hood for my Nikon 55-200 zoom lens. Have only had a chance to use a few times but both times worked great. Fits on nice and snug. Shipping was super fast also!

This used hood would not lock on to my lens. I called Adorama and explained that the notches on the hood where worn and that was the issue. Adorama returned credit to my card.

The lens hood is fine. The problem is I needed a "Quick Start" instruction sheet. I have always used screw on or bayonet lens hoods. When I first looked at this lens hood I thought what I eventually learned were the "buttons/tabs" to depress to attach/remove the hood were actually little access doors to allow manipulation of a polarizing filter. I must have looked like a low IQ chimpanzee as I tried to mound the hood over and over and eventually damaging the "tab mechanism". I had to laugh. I was able to reassemble the mechanism and now even I know how it works. Perhaps it's some kind of Nikon initiation right.

I picked up a used lens missing the hood from a friend, picked up a hood here and it works just fine. Remember to check the compatibility - older generation models e.g. vr vs vr ii often use totally different hoods.
