It's a lens hood
It's a lens hood. I can't get excited about a lens hood. It arrived unbroken. What more can I ask of the manufacturer or the dealer than sold it to me? It's a lens hood.

Nikon Lens Hood

An excellent lens hood by Nikon for a particular Nikon product. Top-quality at a reasonable price and I would certainly recommend if you have the matching lens.

Does what's expected.
I get frustrated with hoods. It's a small piece of molded plastic. It really shouldn't cost this much. But it works as advertised, no problems.

This has increased contrast in all my images by blocking unwanted light. It's very sturdy hard plastic and has already taken a beating but still holds up.

Why do we have to pay extra for this?
It's a standard bayonet lens hood made of higher-end plastic. Except if it was really standard it would come with the lens. Typical of most current Nikon lenses, the hood reverses and attaches to the lens in the same bayonet fashion for storage. I've never encountered a problem with this design, and I expect the hood to last the life of the lens.
