Nice for an Inexpensive Kit Lens

Mine is sharp, great for snapshots. If it's on sale, better yet!

Sharp, light weight, easy to carry around.

I purchased this lens to do pictures in s small, cramped areas. And this lens delivers beautiful, sharp, well-saturated pictures. On this small focusing distance, such 11mm you would expect a barrel distortion, but I could not find any. The lens is small and light, easy to carry. Weatherseal would definitely make him a proline lens.

Good kit lens

I got this as a kit lens for my E-M10 II and it did the job well. It is great at almost everything except creating that bokeh look. It is light weight and does not get in the way when you're taking a quick snap.

lightweight, low profile kit lens

Lightweight easy to use kit lens. I received this lens with my OM-D E-M5 Mark II and used it for several months until I was able to upgrade to the 12-40 2.8 PRO and haven't looked back.

Lightweight and unobtrusive

I got this in a kit with the E-M10 II. It?s very lightweight and IMO easier to use than the EZ model (I love the smaller size but hate the power zoom). It?s also very versatile with some add-ons available from Olympus. I used this lens for a few months as I was saving up for the 12-40 PRO, and it is quite good for a kit lens. Yes, it?s slow variable aperture and plastic build are not as good if you need ruggedness or low light performance, but with a flash or in good light it actually performs admirably. Definitely recommended if you?re just getting into MFT.

Kit Lens

I bought this lens as part of an EM5 II underwater bundle. The lens seems to work quite well. However, the lens is not weather sealed to use as a walk around lens.

Very nice kit lens!

Got this lens along with my EM-10 Mark II as a kit lens. I use this to capture wide-angle scene and also some pretty nice portraits. Very nice kit lens.

Pretty good for a kit lens.

I wasn't expecting much from a kit lens, but this little guy gave me a big surprise. Build quality was far better than other kit lenses I've owned and image quality far exceeded what I was expecting.

Punches way above its price!

Like the inexpensive 75-150 zoom, this Olympus kit zoom punches way above its price tag. Kit lenses are always going to be compromises -- not so sharp, not so fast, not usually as well built -- as the enthusiast lenses covering the same price range. But they cannot be TOO bad because the object is to hook the buyer on the system. Sadly, a lot of manufacturers don't understand this. Look at all the Nikon APS-C kit zooms rolling around my drawer! Unused. Unsaleable. But this little Oly lens is more than adequately sharp and contrasty and fast enough with reasonable ISO settings. There is a bit of chromatic aberration, correctable in firmware and in Oly RAW. It's not the 12-40/2.8 PRO zoom of course. That's a brilliant lens but big and heavy. The R-II is light and portable, probably intended to make the small Pen bodies into a small and convenient package. Cons: Well, as with almost all Olympus lenses, it should have come with a hood; it needs it in the field. The plastic mount is a downer if you're used to shooting the more expensive lenses, but why? It's more than precise enough to do the job since the autofocus seamlessly corrects for moderate mount wear. And besides, for the beginning interchangeable lens photographer, just how many lens changes will she make before stepping up to primes or better zooms? I found the lens lock/unlock feature to be a bit cumbersome and counterintuitive. My biggest complaint is that when collapsed and locked it is just too big. I can't fit my EP-3 into a pocket except the deep ones on my heavy duffle coat. I gather the EZ fixes that problem at a cost in $$ and sharpness. But it's a good practical general duty lens. I have many other Olympus lenses including primes, PROs, and premium designs. I still find uses for the 14-42 R II.

After six years, still going strong!

This was the kit lens on an E-P3 that I purchased about 6 years ago. It's still going strong, takes good photos, and sees plenty of action on my camera.

Excellent kit lens, probably the best one there is even amongst the brands

Pretty great lens, especially considering it's a kit lens. I prefer to shoot with vintage glass mostly but I still get quite a bit of use out of this lens.

Compact little everyday zoom lens

This is a nifty little lens to have on your camera when you're traveling a city. Its zoom range makes it perfect for everyday shooting. It's only downside is that it's not the fastest lens, but that's a worthwhile tradeoff to keep the lens very very small and light. This is my second favorite lens behind the 17mm f/1.8, and it's second favorite ONLY because this one is f/3.5. This is a lovely lens, you won't regret having it.

Great lens, belongs in everyone's kit.

Although I purchased another brand prime, I wanted the convenience of a zoom. I have had this lens for about a week now and it outclasses the short zoom kit lenses I have owned from Canon and Nikon. I have used it for flower to party photography and my pictures are consistently sharper than any other brand lens in this price category.

My favorite Zuiko lens.

On my second copy of this lens as the first copy broke. Evidently the lens error is a common problem after much use. For that I am dinging the review one star. Despite that, I prefer this lens over all others that I have, and that includes the 17, 25, 45 primes, and the 12-40 pro lens. The focus speed is near instantaneous, faster than all other lenses except the 12-40 pro. Ironically, I did not like this lens at all when I got it as part of the epm1, but as both the sensors and the in body stabilization has improved then I think this lens has become a truly excellent and portable lens. On the EM5.2 the small aperture is not an issue most of the time. It is considerably sharper than the EZ version, though not as compact. I prefer the handling of the IIR over the EZ as the IIR can be left in the ready position. I recommend this lens over all other Zuiko lenses.

It is an ok lens

It is an ok lens, image quality is good. Suitable for everyday use, but since the aperture is small the pictures don't stand out as much. Comes for a cheap price though !

Light but Versatile

You can't really beat this for a bundled lens. It came bundled with my E-M5, and when first starting out, it is a neat little lens. Although the aperture leaves something to be desired, that is to be expected from a kit lens. Definitely satisfied and even though i've upgraded to other lenses, this never leaves my bag.

Capable

This lens came with my Pen and I am very happy with it. It works great for UW photography when diving new places and I am not sure what I may be shooting at first. It is also small enough, compared to my full frame street lens, to carry around with me during the day regardless where I am. For what it is I am very happy with it!

Light and Compact

This is the first digital lens that I bought for my E-M1. I am very impressed. It's not a record breaker, but it is very light, and great for travel. It produces very good photos for it's price. It is my go to, throw in the bag and hit the road lens.
