W ith a good sony mic it works wonderful. the mic that came with it has a grinding noise when it is mounted directly to the adapter.

The Mic worked perfectly with the new E-PL5 I also purchased from Adorama. The lead was a bit short, but that was not a big deal since any local electronics store or office supply store would have for a few bucks. Installing the Mic was easy, and the pickup was decent enough to keep other noise away.

Too many camera reviewers are apparently unaware the OM-D E-M5 has an external microphone port — an essential requirement for professional video production! The kit includes everything you need including a clip to pin the included stereo microphone on your talent's clothing. The output sound is much improved over the camera's built-in microphones (which are cancelled out when using this mic kit). If you need even better audio re-production you can plug a professional lavallièr, boom, or wireless system into this port and "Voilá!" you have pro-audio using the E-M5 for your HD video production! What could be cooler? The only things missing which would be a nice addition to the kit are a couple of mini wind socks and a small carrying case for the bits. I've ended up using a rigid shell internally cushioned eyeglass case for this purpose. So if you need pro-audio capability or just want improved sound for your video productions, get this kit. It works!

A much needed accessory for the OM-D. It lets me use a Sennheiser microphone for video recording, since the OM-D does not have a 3.5mm jack built in.

This microphone is a must have item to out-perform the built in mic. You need to add on a piece of foam to cut down wind noise though. I modified mine by using a foam brush and it works just fine. I wish the wire is much thicker so it will last longer and provide better transmission. All in all, it is a good accessory to own for making better video.
