I am a pro photographer, my wife is not. she has done everything to kill a normal camera, but it is working.i bought it for her, she is not permitted to use my equipment. The only down fall to this product is you must go on line to down load good instructions from Olympus.

This is a great product. Used it on an extensive trip to Thailand recently. rained frequently - no problem. Snorkeling - no problem. Sightseeing in back of jeep - no problem. A dedicated SLR and high end P&S may have better optics, but they cannot go where this beauty goes. Clearly a specialty product. But if severe duty is what you need, this should be one of your choices. Highly recommended

I bought this camera for my daughter for Christmas because it is what she asked for. The camera looks to be very sturdy and tough but also heavy, the image quality is just so-so. It doesn't take bad pictures just should be better. We returned it for a refund. She probably would have kept it if it wasn't so expensive. She should be able to get a camera that takes better pictures for less money, just won't have the "tough" body. She was probably expecting too much. You have to sacrifice something for the toughness of the camera. In order to keep the lens protected inside the body you must keep the lens short and covered which limits the optics. My son's girlfriend had an Olympus similar to this but lost it. They found it a year later rattling around in the bilge of his boat, covered in an oily mess. The camera still works to this day.

Battery life is very bad. Having 2-3 spares is needed, but you can only charge them in the camera. Video is not enough FPS. Casual beach/underwater stuff and this camera is fine.

The Olympus Stylus Tough-8010 is a compact 14-Megapixel digital camera with a 28mm 5x optical zoom lens designed for people with an active lifestyle. The camera is waterproof to 33' (10.06m), shockproof to 6.6' (2.01m), crushproof to 220 lbs of pressure and freezeproof to 14°f (-10°c). This makes the camera perfect for beach going, swimming, skiing, climbing, hiking or any other outdoor activity, or tough environment. Setting the camera for the perfect photo is easy with scene modes that include Beach, Underwater Snapshot, Underwater Wide 1, Underwater Wide 2, Underwater Macro and Pets. Accessing the camera's controls is a snap with Tap Control. This is especially convenient underwater or while wearing gloves.
The camera has features that allow you to capture the action even in low light. Dual Image Stabilization will keep your images sharp and if the image is better captured in motion, the camera will take HD videos. The 2.7" LCD screen allows you to compose your still and video images and review them after capture. The camera takes SD/SDHC memory cards, but the built-in 2GB of internal memory allows you to take many photographs without a memory card. All of these features make the Olympus Stylus Tough-8010 the perfect camera to take with you when the going gets tough.
