As a landscape painter and photographer I find this lens perfect! Tack sharp, and very compact, and fast for low light!

Bought this for low light (which it does well) and the compact design, I now use it as my main lens for most everything. Good clarity and saturation... makes it hard to use anything else.

This lens has compact format, good sharpness and very good low light performance. The reviews are usually good. This lens was recommended by friends too. I am very happy i bought it.

Couldn't be happier with this purchase. Adorama had a used (but previously loved!) copy of this 20mm f/1.7 for sale on their website. I was about to buy it online, but gave them a call anyway. The sales person I talked to on the phone had another used one available and offered even a better price. He promptly helped me put an order together, and the lens was shipped to me with all the proper packaging so it doesn't get damaged. Great service and price! As for the lens, I couldn't be happier with it. It's compact, bright, fast, and gives decent bokeh too. It's my go-to lens for when I want to take a nice shot in low light situations with my Lumix G5. The one only thing that bugs me a little is the way it focuses sometimes - it does make a fuss with the noise and slightly slow movements. But at least the manual focus offers accurate "focus-by-wire" operations. I would recommend this lens. Just be prepared to pay a decent amount for it though - it seems the price for a new one has actually gone up a bit in the past couple of weeks.

This is an amazing lens, the focus is a bit slower on non native systems like my om-d but its still faster than most Dslr's. Its a beautiful lens, its my go to for street photography. I highly recommend.

This is a great addition to my GH2-14/140 lens package. I seem to end up wanting to take a lot of pictures in low light situations, handheld, so this lens fill the gap. And, the images are really sharp. Really enjoy having it.

This is an amazing glass. It is quite sharp wide open. Great for street photography, portrait and night photography. It is my go to lens for video.

The 20mm f1.7 on the OMD EM5 makes for a nice compact combo. Good quality results and excellent in low light.

Just buy it, you'll love it! Great on my Panasonic GX1, I'm sure it would also be a killer combo on the Olympus OMD as well.

This is the lens people say you HAVE to get and you should question that typically -- but this lens is really too good to pass up. It's sharp wide open, reliable, small and well built with a metal mount. The only downside I can think of is that it is an older design that moves everything to focus and this slows it down over the latest offerings -- but really, it is scarcely an issue in all but the most fast moving circumstances. It's not stabilized in-lens, but on an Olympus body it is stabilized by the IBIS. I have used this lens primarily for street and personal photography and it is something I ALWAYS carry for use with my E-P3 or OM-D E-M5. I think it truly is a "must have" for a slightly wide angle prime or as your traditional 50mm equivalent "normal" lens.

I wanted a fast lens that beats the zooms I have and the 20mm is a good length for me. It is not a fast focus (on the GH1) but I mostly use manual focus anyway. The focus ring is nice and precise, build quality is good. I find the 20mm a really good option for Panasonic primes under 400 at a good focal range (40mm).

This is a must have lens for any m43 kit. Perfect for street, portrait , landscape, and any other use for a somewhat normal focal length lens (at 40mm). Focus is reasonable on my OMD, and image resolution is great wide open, even better stopped down to f4–5.6 or so. A perfect walk around lens, that works quite well in low light. Night shots hand held are possible with this lens - a great prime lens for a m43 kit.

Excellent for low-light shooting, including videos (see my sample). Combined with the Olympus E-PM1, which has in-camera in camera image stabilization, makes a great walk-around kit!

This is rapidly becoming my favorite lens for the Olympus Pen. I picked up an attractively priced Pen e-PL1 to try the M4/3 system out. This lens is fairly compact, very sharp, and has good inherent contrast. The focal length of 20mm (full frame equiv of 40mm) is what I would consider just a bit "wide normal", not quite as wide as the 35mm lens that was often favored in photo journalist work before the popular advent of zooms. For general photography of people this lens has a close to "normal" perspective where spatial relationships are rendered much as they look to our eyes. The slightly "wide" angle of view allows working with small groups and working in closer in slightly confining spaces. For working with available light (not using flash) the maximum aperture of f1.7 is a real bonus. Low light photography becomes a real pleasure. I'll likely purchase a more advanced M4/3 system camera in the near future, probably the new Olympus OMD E-M5 and this Lumix 20mm f1.7 will probably continue to be one of my favorite lenses with it, too.

I use this lens on a small M43 camera as a backup and travel camera when I don't want to lug my big DSLR around. The Pany 20 is a great walk-around lens. It is very small and sharp. A must have lens for M43!

I'm trying out M4/3 system with an Olympus Pen e-PL1, ordered this Lumix 20mm f1.7 based on all the good reviews and favorable comments. After using it for a couple of weeks here's my "take" on it. Focal length is what I consider slightly "wide normal" perspective so for me it makes a good compact general purpose lens similar to what we used to get with something not quite as wide as 35mm on full frame film cameras. A good perspective for working fairly close to people, photojournalists used to love that. Color and contrast are very good and the f1.7 max aperture makes this a very useful "available light" lens. It's going to be spending a lot of time on that Pen and when I move into one of the newer offerings from either Panasonic or Olympus I'll be using this lens a lot on whatever that will be. I also use my cameras a lot for video and there is always a place for a "normal" or "near normal" perspective lens with a "fast" aperture in video work. This is one "neat" lens!

I'm what you call a street photographer and this is the only lens I use. With this lens the camera is easy to conceal, fit in my jacket pocket, I can take excellent pics in low light without flash, etc. It can't get better than this (at least in this price range).

Overall, this is a great lens. Price vs performance is just right for me. I'm no pro, but I've been a casual/enthusiast off and on for years, and I always liked fast prime lenses. This one doesn't disappoint. All the good reviews are right. Like my old Minolta 50mm, or our really big sigma 4/3 25mm, this lens now allows me to use my Olympus PEN u4/3 and shoot some great indoor shots without flash or just go out and capture great clean, sharp images. I haven't used it enough yet to have noticed the weaknesses that some point out. I just love that I can get such great pictures out of a compact camera. I haven't been as excited about photography since I got my old Canonette rangefinder years ago. (and then shortly after stopped using film...) Compact and high quality! awesome!

Great for compactnes, low light performance and fast focus. I use it on my Olympus EPL1.

Use it as a general lens in addition to the kit lenses which are slower and of lesser qualty. With lens the 4/3 Micro is almost as small as the compacts with much better low light performance.

Bought this lens for my Olympus E-P3 and couldn't be happier with it. It is well made and attaches to the camera easily/quickly. The auto-focus is as quick as my other Oly lenses. It is very sharp and works well in low light conditions.

this is currently the best "normal" lens for m4/3's available, is compact, well built. Sharp even wide open, a little better slight stopped down. Not as fast to focus as some of the newer lenses, but more than adequate. I use this on olympus ep-1 and ep-3. Due to it's image quality and compactness, still my favorite lens. Combine this with the olympus 12 and 45 primes and you have a very good kit.

This lens, paired with my Oly E-PL1 with in-body image stabilization, is great for low light work. It's small and light and therefore nice for unobtrusive street work. And all of that for a great price.

The 20mm Panasonic Lumix f/1.7 is one of the few must owns for the micro 4/3 system. I use it on my Olympus EP-2 with great results. It is sharp, fast, focuses accurately, is built well, and looks great mounted on the camera. The bokeh is great. This is a gem of a lens, and a steal for the price. Great optics!

I have this pancake lens along with the very compact Panasonic GF2 which makes it look like a typical point and shoot by it's size but don't be mistaken. The image quality surpasses any point and shoot bar none. The 20mm F1.7 is a must have lens for any Micro 4/3rds photographer. It's sometimes hard to believe that such a tiny lens produces amazing picture quality. It's a great all around lens. I use it to take great environmental portraits(I'll include sample photos). It's also perfect for bokeh lovers. It can take great landscapes as well. Low light? Not a problem with this lens. You'll be amazed at how easy to use and how quick the lens is that you won't miss any shot. Whatever your style photo, you won't be underwhelmed by this lens. I guarantee it!

The LUMIX G 20mm/F1.7 ASPH, a compact and lightweight "pancake" lens with outstanding brightness
The LUMIX G 20mm/F1.7 ASPH lens is dramatically compact and lightweight, featuring an outstanding F1.7 brightness which allows consumers to create stunning photos with beautiful, soft focus. Comprised of seven lenses arranged in five groups, the LUMIX G 20mm lens actually uses two aspherical lenses to effectively minimize distortion and achieve super high resolution.
The versatile 20mm focal length (equivalent to 40mm on a 35mm film camera) is suitable for allapplications - from scenery shots to dimly-lit indoor environments. When mounted on LUMIX G Micro System Cameras, the LUMIX G 20mm/F1.7 ASPH lens allows for use of the advanced contrast Auto Focus (AF) system, which includes Panasonic's Face Recognition functions. Both lenses are comprised of seven blades, which produce an attractive and smooth background blur effect when shooting at larger aperture settings. These lenses also feature a highly-reliable metal mount, and use multi-coated lens elements to minimize glare andfurther enhance optical performance.
