If you are shooting timelapse you need this or some other easy way to swap batteries while shooting is in progress. Most tripods or mounts will make swapping batteries out of the bottom of the camera difficult. This solves that problem. If you shoot stills and run the camera vertically the extra controls are really handy, too. My one complaint is that it comes loose and needs to be snugged up too often.

As the previous reviewer noted, the positioning of the 1/4in is completely off. It is literally on the opposite side of where it should be. The lens mounts on the left side of the camera and my Manfrotto 501PL baseplate ends up on the right side of the camera. It is utterly lopsided. On a glidecam, it is impossible to balance my GH5 with this grip. Worst, I can't even set it down on a table without it toppling over diagonally.

Positives: - Better build than the GH3/4 grip, doesn't wiggle around and feel nearly as flimsy - Joystick button and other parity controls work as expected - Gives the camera much better ergonomics especially for larger handed shooters (honestly would be better for anyone who doesn't have "small" hands) Negatives: - Overpriced by about $ - Tripod mount is OFFSET!!! Common guys you market, price and sell this camera system for pros and your tripod mount is not aligned with the lens!?! This is extremely frustrating Overall: If you need to shoot stills, want double battery life and will immediately benefit from better ergonomics, oh, and have $ to torch, then go for it. Otherwise wait for a third party solution. And Panasonic, nor Adorama has addressed a solution for the misaligned tripod mount. I think I may take to twitter to see if I can get their attention there. Are you listening @PANASONIC??? Cheers GH5 shooters.
