Awesome Lens

This is an awesome lens, I've only had it for a little while but has impressed me none the less. I was able to get some great shots from quite the distance.

Be forewarned

The lens fell apart. First, screws holding the lens elements into the barrel stripped and fell out. Then, the focusing motor failed. The optics are lovely but the lens is junk. I babied this thing and it still fell apart.

The right lens

This lens is everything I hoped it would be. With a focal length to 450mm and f-stop of 5.6, my bird photography has improved immensely. I would definitely recommend this lens.

Wonderful telephoto.

The quality at full zoom is outstanding. It is a heavy lens but I knew that before ordering. The construction solid!

Another quality Pentax lens

Shortly after getting this lens, I took it out in 34F weather along Lake Michigan. It worked really well in the conditions and captured some sharp wave crashing and wildlife shots with both k1 and k3 bodies. It's a stout lens for Pentax photographers.

Pentax Telephoto 150-450

I have been wanting this for several years. I am not disappointed. I can now take great pictures of wildlife and not have the graininess that I had experienced when cropping the image to blow it up. Also took some good shots of the conjunction in December

A great lens for a birder on a fixed income

A great lens at a great price. A bit heavy but well balanced . Capable of being hand held in well lit conditions . I would recommend a mono pod to capture the sharpness of focus . I shoot birds & have been able to capture handheld in flight shots due to the balance ,fast focus & 4 focus buttons mounted on the lens body . The one caveat is it needs to be mated to the Pentax F1 full frame camera body to unleash its capability's. Bravo Pentax/Ricoh for keeping the pentax brand alive & still affordable.

Fantastic Lens

Bought to replace old Sigma 50-500mm. Thoroughly impressed, images are much sharper and the lens focuses much quicker and locks right in. Using this lens with my K-3 ii

adorama is the best

this lens is amazing , my only complaint is it is tooo heavy for me. i must be on a tripod / mount to use. otherwise the pictures are clean and crisp / sharp.

Superb construction, excellent results.

This is a heavy piece of glass, as I expected but so far I am very pleased with the results. I had to calibrate it slightly, as it back focused a bit. Once done, the photos are sharp and the color rendering is pleasing.

One beast of a beautiful lens.

I primary purpose for purchasing this lens is for distant landscape photos and also sport events. It is quite heavy and no doubt requires a tripod or at least a monopod support. So far my Pentax K1ii camera has no problems regarding using this lens as it is a full frame lens. Photos are crystal clear at distant ranges. I have many more subjects and areas of photo work ahead of me for this lens to play with. Thanks Pentax, you have out done your selfs with this glass. D. Cleaver, Phoenix, Az.

One great lens at a terrific price!

This lens is awesome! The build is typical of Pentax's high quality. Optically, this lens is also excellent, and compares with other name brand fixed focal length telephoto lenses. I highly recommend this lens!

Very Nice Lens

I purchased the HD D FA 150-450mm for several reasons, the longer focal length, the price reduction, better at focusing and comments that it could be used hand held on my camera K5IIs. Everything was great except I found the lens too heavy to hand hold long enough for my liking. For BIF focusing was limited by my camera K5IIs. I need to upgrade my camera. Focusing was also compromised by hand shake due to the weight of the lens while it was hand held. For still pictures, hand held, the results were very good. My hands could hold the camera and lens steady long enough for a few shots.

Very sharp focus.

I, like several others, have a Sigma 50-500 that I like very much. I had a difficult time finding a 2x converter that would work with it. Everyone I tried would not auto-focus. I was intrigued with the Pentax 150-450mm because of what others had said about it. The auto-focus is very fast and smooth. The results are sharp. My Pentax 1.4x works very nicely with it. My Vivitar 2x Converter works, but no auto-focus. Both lens weigh about the same. Overall, I'm very pleased with the results and very happy I have a good auto-focus to almost 700mm.

Wonderful lens but heavy

Love this lens.Sharpest pictures I've ever taken! I'm 67 and it is very heavy to carry around for a long time even when attached to a tripod. I plan my photo shoot, set it up, and sit on a tri-stool. It's not your walk all around a garden and hand shoot. I also had to buy a manfrotto video head to support it. My Sirui ball head just couldn't handle the length and pull down of this lens. Never the less, the pictures I've taken with it are stunning!!! The build quality and solidness of it are beyond expectations. I'd buy it again.

Great Lens

Was able to use this lens once so far. very happy with the results. The only downside to this lens is that it is pretty pricey considering there aren't many choices for a K-mount telephoto lens.

Great Lens for Photographing Birds

This lens is easy to use and does a great job photographing birds with my Pentax K-3 camera body. Focuses fast and has a solid, quality feel to it. I am happy with the performance of this lens.

Solid Built But Not That Sharp

This is a well built lens with fairly stiff zoom ring and heavy. Image quality with Pentax K1 was OK but nothing to brag about specially at 4.5 or 5.6. With K1 and this lens auto focus speed was acceptable but not that fast, I had many occasions that focus was hunting but eventually locked on the subject. Due to 4.5-5.6 aperture you need to use the lens in good light to achieve a good focused image.

Great lens

Very sharp lens. Most importantly, it is very sharp at long end, i.e. 450mm. Image quality is top notch. Solid, metal build and feel pro grade. A lot of features - nice. AF is very fast and decisive. Unlike SDM lenses, it rarely has any micro-adjustment when auto focus. Only complaint is that there is a little zoom creep and zoom lock only functions at 150mm. Highly recommend it!

sharp

this is a heavy lens not for hiking but perfect so far for what it is intended for. so far i have used it on a tripod mounted on a K3 with the converter which gives me more reach and have got some nice shots of wildlife so far. when it gets warmer i will use a tripod and a blind. a friend is a nikon user and was blown away by the sharpness of my shots. i am still mastering all the controls but based on my use so far i would recommend it highly.

Worth every penny

I've been using a Sigma 50-500 but at either extreme end it lost sharpness quite a bit, so was limited in range in spite of the numbers. And it was very heavy. I got this because it would be sharp to the end and it really is! With a 1.4x teleconverter I can get decent shots from a long way, and great shots closer in. It still doesn't match a ten thousand dollar lens, but I'm very pleased with it's performance and the price!

Its superior MTF curve outperforms conventional models, guaranteeing high-resolution, finely detailed images. The lens's image circle is also designed to accommodate the size of 35mm film-format SLR cameras, ensuring exceptional image quality and future-proof compatibility with larger sensor models.
