Great walking around lens. I'm getting very acceptable images even at high iso's. Lots of latitude in distance even with a 3/4 crop sensor. I'm happy I bought this lens and will use it until I wear it out.

Avery fine lens for the every day photo shoot. It will do just about all that you request it to do on a trip to wherever and do it well. Shoot in "P" mode whenever possible and not in "A" [auto]. You will see the excellent results with your Pentax camera and like them. In "A" mode the camera's auto focus may center the focus on an object you were not counting on photographing. The camera may get confused and pick an object other than your subject.

Just completed our latest trip out to NM. Got this lens early on and and very few incidents where I needed to change lenses. My previous scenario would have had me change out between my DA 50-200 and DA 18-55 kit lenses. What I noticed first off was how quiet the focus motor is! Wow, I can hardly hear it at all. This lens had me covered pretty much the whole trip. Very few changes and less total weight too! It's a great addition,

I really like the extended range of the lens. I wanted something for my travels so I didn't have to carry multiple lenses. This one does the trick. The fast auto-focus lets me capture images that I've missed in the past. I use it on my K-50, a DSLR camera that is a great product for the amateur at an affordable price.

JUST BOUGHT THIS LENS FROM ADORAMA. WANT TO GET THE BEST PERFORMANCE FROM THIS LENS? THEN DO WHAT I DID. BUY THE HOYA FUSION [EVO] ANITISTATIC UV FILTER-62MM-DUST/STAIN/WATER REPELLENT, LOW-PROFILE FILTER FRAME. WHEN YOU SHOOT OUTSIDE SHOOT SHUTTER PRIORITY. IF YOU WANT SHARP PHOTOGRAPHS NEVER SHOOT BELOW 1/500s. I USE 1/640s. THIS ALONG WITH SR ENGAGED MAKES A HUGE DIFFERENCE. GOOD SHOOTING!!!!

IT TOOK ME MONTHS TO DECIDE ON WHAT LENS I WANTED TO BUY FOR MY PENTAX K-30. I TOOK SIGMA 18-300 INTO CONSIDERATION, BUT IT WOULD NOT WORK TOTALY WITH THE BODY.EG:the distortion control and the lateral chromatic settings. I FIGURED I SHOULD STAY WITH PENTAX LENSES. AFTER RESEARCHING MANY LENSES; ALL DIFFERENT MM'S LONG ZOOMS AND NON ZOOMS I DECIDED ON THE 18-270MM. FOR ME THIS WAS THE BEST OPTION. I WANTED TO MAKE SURE THIS LENS TOOK GOOD TO GREAT PHOTOS. I CAME ACROSS A GREAT WAY TO TEST THIS LENS. GO OUTSIDE ON A SUNNY DAY AND, USING THE FRONT DIAL, CHANGE THE SHUTTER SPEED TO 1/640 OF A SECOND. THIS SPEED PLUS ANTI SHAKE REDUCTION WILL STOP MOST HAND SHAKING AT 270MM. USING THIS METHOD I WAS ABLE TO GET GREAT PHOTOGRAPHS AND I WAS CONVINCED TO KEEP THIS LENS. ANOTHER ITEM THAT I PURCHASED WITH THIS LENS WAS A HOYA FUSION [EVO] ANTISTATIC UV FILTER-62MM-DUST/STAIN/WATER REPELLENT, LOW-PROFILE FILTER FRAME. What's not to like? Mounted on my new Pentax K500 allows me to use this lens exclusively for more than general shooting. The auto-focus is fine, quick and quiet.

The extended plastic tubes echo the shutter click of a K-5 as if it were a toy lens. It can feel and sound like a much cheaper lens in spite of the silent AF drive. However, I found the optics, especially when fully extended, to exceed my expectations. Unless I had plans to heavily crop or print 13x19 I would have no problem shooting with this lens for most any outdoor events (birding excepted) or indoor with extra lighting. I was delighted to find the lens lock is not needed as there is no lens creep, even jumping up and down...hope it stays that way. The focus speed is quite acceptable, precise and silent. However when at its maximum focal length the AF often fails in poor light. Until now the Pentax DA 18-135mm WR lens has been my walk in the woods companion but unless its precipitating, the 18-270mm will start making the walks. Overall I am pleased with the color and center sharpness at all focal lengths, and the zoom range compensates for the lack of solid feel that I found with the DA 18-135mm.
