Used Ricoh GV-1 External Viewfinder for GR Digital Cameras

I received my GV-1 viewfinder today for my GRIII. My first impressions were: 1. It's not as bright as advertised. It feel like it's 1 stop darker than the surrounding ambient light. 2. The edges appear distorted. The edge distortion is much more visible looking through this viewfinder than what is displayed on the rear LCD screen of the GRIII. 3. The framelines are very thick and visible, especially the outer 21mm frame line. 4. The construction is plastic, including the accessory mount. This makes the GV-1 very fragile when mounted on the GRIII. This creates a problem if you try stuffing your GRIII into your coat pocket with the GV-1 still attached. There is a very high probability that it will snap off due to the thin plastic accessories mount. 5. The little pouch it came with seems to be the only higher quality item with this purchase. Had it not been for this little pouch, I would've given the GV-1 a one star rating.

Not perfect, but it suits my needs 100%, keeps me on target when I can not see the screen because of the bright sun glare.

Originally used with Ricoh and it was good for this purpose. Note offset foot especially configured for the Ricoh. Was lost when it came away from shoe in rugged bush and I bought a second one to replace original.Unfortunately I no longer use Ricoh and this viewfinder is used on Panasonic LX3. In retrospect I should have bought an alternate brand, eg Voigtlander without offset foot. Also, front element is very exposed; a little more shielding would have been nice. Optically crystal clear. Like all optical finders, it is expensive. I would stress that this is tailor made for the Ricoh.
