The first 6 x 6 medium-format system camera with autofocus
This Canera represents a new landmark in the world of 6 x 6 medium-format photography. All the camera's main functions like focusing, exposure and flash control can be carried out fully automatically or controlled manualy.
Because the new system camera is compatible with Rollei's 6000 system, buyers will be able to use all the previous lenses (even SLX lenses from 1976) by means of focus indication.
The new Rolleiflex 6008 AF is based on the successful Rolleiflex 6008 integral, but the entire electronics have been redesigned. Only the mechanical components and the functional design of the Rolleiflex 6000 family have been retained.
The illuminated LC finder acts as a Display and e control center. In addition to displaying most functions of the camera additional special modes can also be added via the mode switch. They are selected with the memo button and entered via the shutter release button. The following settings can be made and, if necessary, changed in this way: flash sync time, pre-flash metering, self-timer, display on/off, silent running on/off, cancel film advance on/off, centre weighting of the exposure metering on/off, AF 3-zone metering and pre-selection of the number of frames in continuous shooting mode. The Rolleiflex 6008 AF has an autofocus module with an H-sensor (three-zone sensor). There is a mode switch on the right-hand side of the body for changing to AF mode.
There are also a number of important new flash features compared with the previous model. Thanks to TTL flash metering, exposure compensation in the + range leads to an additional flash exposure with auto exposure and the SCA flash switched on.The new SCA 3562 flash adapter controls a system flash unit such as the Metz 54 MZ 3, and provieds low light AF Assist
Another new feature is that the system flash, if desired, switches on automatically in poor available light.
The zoom reflector control with AF lenses and the transfer of the aperture and film speed from the camera to the flash unit are also automatic. In addition, pre-flash metering is possible for checking the flash output or adjusting the aperture when using studio flash units. Digital backs can be operated via the serial port of the Rolleiflex 6008 AF to control the functions directly via the camera contacts (without additional cables). The real pièce de résistance of the 6008 AF, however, is the possibility of individually programming the camera's functions via a PC. Special Windows software developed by Rollei (on CD-ROM) and a connecting cable for the 14-pin socket on the camera allow the owner to program virtually everything in the camera and to operate it by remote control.
Two new interchangeable AF lenses from Schneider-Kreuznach will become available in Summer 2002: The 180mm f/2.8 AF Tele-Xenar and the 60-140mm f/4.6 AF-Variogon HFT. Additonal lenses will be available later
