Magic !

Well, not really magic, but this lens in combination with my NX 10 or NX 1000 just seems like it. I bought my NX 1000 with the kit lens (20-50mm, NO OIS) and was very dissapointed. I was ready to return it, and decided to try the 18-55mm OIS lens. That was a step up. The second lens I bought was the 30mm prime, another step up. At this price point (not expensive as lenses go) I'm very pleased.

Very Nice lens

This is somewhat of a departure for me as I go back to the manual focus SLR days where lens were made of brass not plastic. Back to the present I want as light a piece of kit as I can get but with the caveat that it must be optically excellent. So the lens in question the Samsung 45 f 1.8 is light and produces stellar images. The focus is quick on my NX300 and accurate. Getting the hang of touch focus and maybe it is OK. An antiglare, antismudge screen protector such as the Vivatar go a long way to making this system functional for me. The 45 has very nice bokeh is feather light while it does have a metal mounting bracket for those that worry about that issue. I am not sure this is the best focal length, it is the one that Samsung will offer at a bargain price as opposed to its 60mm Macro sibling. That is probably the lens I should have purchased but that lens is larger and weighs more but does have IS. So for an ultra light kit the 45 f1.8 offers great value. I wish the filter were the same on all the Samsung lens and only my 18-55 has a bayonette lens hood but filters are of less importance and if a smaller filter size can keep costs down and optical quality high then I say let the manufacturer do their thing. If you want to do macro get the 60 as this does not focus all that close even when macro is selected in smart mode. I am talking bug or tiny flowers here.

A remarkable prime lens

I spent the weekend out with my Samsung NX1000 with this 45mm f/1.8 lens at both Brandywine Battlefield and Longwood Gardens. I like it clarity of focus, bokeh for close-ups, speed and size. It fits in my purse so it can always be with me and it does very well under all light conditions. It is also very reasonably priced for such good quality. I'm sure this will be "my walking around" lens for future trips. To say I'm pleased and happy with it is an understatement.
