Look No Further
Sennheiser did a outstanding job with this mic. It is so easy for me to recommend this mic because of features like auto on/off, on mic headphone output, built in shock mount, AND built in wind muff. Topping it all off is the audio quality itself, I don?t see why you?d want any other mic.

Compact Shotgun Mic
I've been shooting with the Canon C500 wrapped in a Redrock Micro Professional Series ultraCage with a hot shoe mount right above the mic input. I know the Canon monitor has XLR but there is never a good place to mount the obnoxious monitor. Without the monitor I have no scratch audio until I picked up this awesome Shotgun Mic! I'm very impressed by the quality of the mic! Sennheiser MKE 400 does NOT disappoint. I also found that the + and - button is super convenient for boosting your audio level in a quiet space. I've been using the mic on my smaller DSLR for better quality audio when i'm out shooting. The audio is very clean and easy to manipulate in post. This is a must have! Cheers

Solid small mic

Great little mic
Love this mic for run and gun shooting mounted on a camera, as well as mounted on a boom. I also own a Rode VideoMic, and the Sennheiser is less than half the size. Pretty useful for fitting it into an already full camera bag, or shooting with a wide angle lens while the mic is mounted on the camera. Simple to use, useful features, and really nice quality. Hard to beat this for the price!

Super compact and functional.
I like this mike because I read it was a quality unit which so far seems to be true. Plus, it is perfect size for use on compact consumer/prosumer camcorders. I would have given it 5 stars, but there could be something better, and I am just a beginner at this time. A very nice piece of equipment.

Improve your Video Sound!
A giant leap above the built in Microphones in a Canon 7D! It is not perfect and one needs experience in using it as it can be extremely directional.

Sennheiser MKE 400.
The MKE 400 is a compact, highly directional on-camera shotgun microphone ideal for vloggers and videographers that want to isolate and enhance the audio for their video. Like the MKE 200, the MKE 400 includes built-in wind protection and integrated shock absorption, while offering even more features to ensure the best possible recordings.Its directionality is achieved by an acoustic interference tube which helps to isolate the audio in front of the camera and reject unwanted background noise from the sides. Compatible with DSLR/M cameras or mobile devices via the provided 3.5 mm TRS and TRRS locking coiled cables, switching from one device to another is accomplished with ease.
Two triple-A batteries power the microphone for up to 100 hours of continuous audio capture and a cold-shoe mount with quarter-20 thread allows for universal mounting. Advanced features include a 3-step gain sensitivity switch to ensure distortion free sound in any environment, a switchable low-cut filter to focus your audio on essential frequencies for clarity and speech intelligibility, and a convenient headphone output with volume control to monitor your levels.
A furry windshield is included with each MKE 400 and provides maximum wind protection while outdoors. Also available is the MKE 400 Mobile Kit, which includes the MKE 400 microphone, Sennheiser Smartphone Clamp and Manfrotto PIXI Mini Tripod in a convenient package for your camera bag or mobile set-up.

Adapt To The Situation.

That's why the MKE 400 comes equipped with both a low-cut filter and a 3-step gain sensitivity switch. Use the low-cut filter to remove problematic low frequency rumble or wind noise and adjust your gain sensitivity to optimize recording levels for any environment.
Before You Start Rolling.
One of the most important steps when recording audio is to check your levels and monitor your sound. While some cameras have a headphone jack, not all do, and that's where the headphone monitoring output comes into play. Plug any 3.5 mm headphone directly into the MKE 400 and use the integrated volume control to dial in your recordings.
