When I heard about this lens I thought there was no way Sigma could put this much range into one lens and still keep the images sharp. Not in a 10x zoom. I thought this might make an acceptable travel lens and nothing more. But I was wrong. This lens far exceeded my expectations. My prior "go to" lens was the Sony 24-105 G which I've had for years and loved. So when I got this lens I did multiple comparisons, taking the exact same shots with the two lenses on my Sony A7Rv. To my surprise, the sharpness of the Sigma exceeded the Sony at every focal length. Even before correction in Lightroom, distortion between the two lenses was virtually identical and very acceptable. The Sigma does produce a slightly warmer tone to its images compared to the Sony, which I happen to like. For further comparison I borrowed a Sony 24-70 GM II lens and did the same tests in the limited focal range offered by the 24-70. As expected, the images taken with the GM were sharper but the difference was only noticeable at 100% magnification. If you're a pixel peeper or regularly print 6-foot images, you probably won't like this lens. But for me, at a cost two and a half times more than the Sigma, the GM is just not worth it. And compared to the 24-105, this lens is sharper, has more FOV on the wide end, and a lot longer reach at the tele end. This is more than a great travel lens. It's a great lens. Period.

The Sigma 20-200mm F3.5-6.3 DG | Contemporary is the world’s first high-power zoom lens for full-frame mirrorless cameras that achieves both 20mm at the wide end and a 10x zoom ratio. This versatile zoom lens covers everything from ultra-wide 20mm to telephoto 200mm, allowing photographers to capture subjects ranging from sweeping landscapes to fast-paced sports without being constrained by distance.

Its flexibility makes it ideal for a wide variety of scenes, including close-ups with a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2. With its broad expressive capabilities, the lens truly shines in travel photography and everyday snapshots.
Shoot scenes most travel zooms can’t. The 20mm wide end captures architecture, interiors, and landscapes with impact, while still giving you the flexibility to zoom in as needed.
Go from wide to telephoto without swapping lenses. The 20-200mm range keeps you ready for anything like street scenes, wildlife, or compressed portraits.

Work close at 16.5 cm at 28mm and achieve 1:2 magnification between 28-85mm. This makes the lens double as a macro tool, letting you fill the frame with flowers, textures, or details while blurring the background.

At only 115.5 mm long and 550 g, this lens is easy to pack, hike with, and shoot handheld all day.

Rely on Sigma’s HLA for fast, precise, and quiet AF. It keeps up with moving subjects in stills and ensures smooth pulls in video.

A dust- and splash-resistant design and oil-repellent front coating protect against the elements and make cleaning easy.

Secure the barrel during transport with a lock that disengages instantly as you rotate the zoom ring.

Minimize focus breathing for consistent framing during pulls. The lens maintains stable composition whether you’re zooming wide or working at 200mm.

Use the focus mode switch, and on L-Mount bodies, choose between linear or non-linear focus response. Connect to the Sigma USB Dock UD-11 for firmware updates and fine-tuning.
