Versatile Quality Zoom @ Great Price

Great quality at low cost. Very versatile range from 28 to 300mm makes this lense well suited for travel and casual use, mitigating frequency of lense changes;...But, not for the serious photographer, noting lack of sharpness at 28mm and soft focus at 300mm. Note that lock only operates with lens fully retracted to 28mm position. Zoom ring resistance is a bit stiff. Overall though, another great Sigma budget lens.

Lightweight and overall okay

I bought this lens for a throw in the bag and go alternative to my Nikkor f/2.8 lenses. It has a good range, acceptable focus and I love the macro focus of this. It is very compact and lightweight. The downside is that at 300mm the lens is f/6.3 - making it dark to see and the lightness of the lens make stability a bit of a problem at 300mm. I suggest a mono-pod when at the long focal lengths.

I would buy this product again and again

This is a very nice lens at a price that is very reasonable. It is sharp and clear, focuses quickly, and is a real pleasure to use. Because of the extreme range of this telephoto lens, it is not necessary to be changing lenses as often. The macro factor is a plus! I own several other Sigma lenses and I like them all.

Compact, great traveler

I bought this for trekking with my camera because of its wide range. The hope was to reduce lens changes which introduce dust into the camera sensor. I like the high quality feel (not "plasticy"), and the fact that the lens achieves the wide range without being large and heavy. It doesn't quite have zoom power for birds and wildlife that my 500 zoom has, but it comes close enough, and has enough "wide" angle for some scenery shots. A real bonus is the macro capability of this lens! I wish it a were higher speed, but then it would be larger and much more expensive, reducing it's utility in backpacking situations, and breaking my budget. Great lens for the money.

This digitally optimized zoom lens provides a high zoom magnification of 10.7x. The new lens coating reduces flare and ghosting, a common problem with digital cameras and also creates an optimum color balance. The 10.7x zoom ratio covers a wide range of focal length from wide angle to tele-photo making this a highly versatile lens ideally suited for many types of photography. This lens features two Special Low Dispersion (SLD) glass elements and four Aspherical Lenses, to produce a high level of optical performance. Aspherical lenses provide excellent correction for all types of aberration while making a very compact construction possible.

The 28-300mm F3.5-6.3 DG MACRO lens has a minimum focusing distance of 50cm at all focal lengths and is equipped with a macro mechanism for close-up photography at 300mm telephoto, allowing a reproduction ratio of 1:3.

The zoom lock switch eliminates "zoom creep" during transportation, a convenient addition when traveling. The inner focusing system gives the advantage of a non-rotating front lens assembly, which is of great benefit when using polarizing filter and the matched Petal-shaped lens hood supplied.
