This is the sleeper of the Art Line

This is one of the lenses that made me sell all of my other lenses and purchase on the Sigma DG HSM Art for Nikon F bodies. I have in my bag the 50mm f/1.4, 28mm f/1.4, 24mm f/1.4, 35mm f/1.4. 85mm f/1.4 and the 135mm f/1.8. There is not a subpar lens in the bunch. The 35mm was returned to Sigma twice and they seem to have found and corrected the issue. The 28mm is the sleeper in the bunch and because I am an old school shooter that started in the film era, the 28mm was our go to wide angle lens. This one is nothing short of exceptional. Lightning fast focusing, crisp color renditions, and a lens that is not often off of any of my nine bodies. For years, third party lenses were considered for amateurs and hobbyist but I will tell you that Sigma has raised the bar and for me, there is no looking back. Everything for casual portraits to home interior and exteriors to some product photography I have not been let down by these the complete Art Line lenses from Sigma.

Without Comparison

There are a couple of lenses in the Art line that I absolutetly love. This is one of them. After having read a ton of reviews on wide angle lenses This one seems to be the hidden gem. My 35mm has been returned to Sigma at least three times for repair, my 24mm is ok but this is the stand out. Connected to my D810 body I can shoot and know that the images that I am going to get back are going to be outstanding. The color renditions, the sharpness (corner to corner) and the speed are beyond comparison. Recently, I have been shooting as a volunteer ofr Habitat for Humanity on their construction sites, at home dedications, and wall blessings and it works flawlessly. The 77mm filter thread is an added bonus and allows me to attach C-PL, ND, and my Haida M-10 II Filters. Sigma has caused me to re-think each and every lens in my bag. With the exception of the Nikkor AF-S f/2.8 24-70mm G lens all are Sigma. The quality of the build, the color rendition, and the sharpness of the glass it incredible. Love the complete line and this is at the top of the list. If you can, don't think about it just buy one.

My first Siggy lens in 30 years and it rocks!

Awesome lens! I use it mostly for astrophotography..and just added the 35 f/1.4 Art. Somehow, Adorama sold me my copy a year ago for 4449??!! Brand new, full warranty! A mistake? Overstock? I have no idea, but I do love deals!!!

Just might be my favorite lens

I have six Sigma Art lenses, zooms and primes, and this is the one that always surprises me the most. Sure, they are all great, but when first reviewing images from a shoot, sometimes I just have to stop and stare at those from this 28. Foofy reviewers on the Tube might say, "the rendering is surreal." Me? It's just freaking awesome. Always the lens I go to for large groups shots. Everybody is in super sharp focus, and the folks on the end don't look fat. Also great for car shows or anywhere I don't have a lot of room to work. 28 is a nice wide view without making things look cartoonish (I grab the 14-24 Art when I want that look.). The lens is built extremely well with good weather sealing while not being as overweight as other Art lenses tend to be.

Fantastic rendition and character; sharp and versatile compositional lens.

My favorite prime focal length for compositional photography, and this Sigma Art 28mm is a delight to use. Recommended.

Fanstastic 28mm Lens

If you enjoy the 28mm focal length you be hard pressed to find a better lens. Sharp and contrasty right from 1.4 and it only gets better as you stop down. Its a large and relatively heavy lens, however it is very well built and the performance of the lens justifies this as well. The AF was nearly silent and seems pretty accurate on my D780 -- plus it required no AF fine tuning. All in all this lens is a STEAL at Adorama's price of $399.

Sigma 28mm ART lense

Fantastic lens at the sales price Adorama had it for. The light capture & detail is superb. Lens is much heavier compared to the Nikon lenses I have been using, but I like the additional weight as it helps steady the camera. The AF motor is very fast compared to Nikon and I love that it is fully functional when paired with my D5500.

One of the finest 28mm lenses

One of the sharpest 28mm lens ever available in the market and par with Nikon 28mm f1.4 E and Otus 28mm f1.4. Even corner sharpness is impressive.

Top notch and worthy of the name.

I bought this lens because I appreciate the 28mm focal length and enjoy using primes. Sigma has a look to it that I really like, and this lens doesn't disappoint. Using the 28mm on my Sony A7RIV was not as easy as I expected as a casual shooter. This is due to the (somewhat) poor AF and missing lens profile in Capture One Pro. I must spend more time processing the raw images to make them look nice and am seeing many more shots with missed focus than I am used to. This was resolved somewhat by using software with the appropriate lens profile, and once I found an option, I was able to see what this lens is supposed to look like; it really does deserve the Art badge. It's not the sharpest lens in the world, but it produces incredible light-stars at f/5.6 and up, and it does a fantastic job controlling colors, glare, and just presents a very pleasant image. I've had some incredible results using a tripod and spending a minute or two setting up the scene. Open the lens up to f/2+ and you'll have an easier time achieving focus and avoiding haziness. I'm a mid-level hobbyist and I find this lens challenging to use but very gratifying when I get the shot right. This lens does an excellent job creating a well-balanced image that can be easily processed to achieve various looks; all with exceptional detail and quality.

Mid range wide angle just right

I got it on a great one day sale that was supposed to add additional points (didn't happen) if I ever wanted it, I felt I should. Purchase at the low price. It is an Art lens and very sharp between 24 and 35mm. It is perfect for a landscape or walk around lens on my 5DS r and is comparable with the Sigma dock. In all, I am very pleased.

This may hurt a little.

This lens is amazing. It?s so sharp, I preface taking pictures of people, by telling them ?this may hurt a little?. They don?t understand, but you do. A perfect walk around lens. Landscapes, people, astrophotography.

Sigma knows how to design and build wide angle lenses

This is another superb Art lens from Sigma. They are on a roll and deliver wide angle lenses, especially zooms, that are superior to Canon's offerings. Decided to get this fixed focal length because it was on sale at Adorama for a great price. Very sharp, especially for a wide angle lens. Super Sharp across the field at f/2.8, great sharpness at f/1.4 and still quite sharp at f/9, where lots of landscapes need to be to expand the DOF.

Perfection through this lens!

The Sigma 28mm 1.4 is an excellent wide angle prime lens. There?s little to no distortion and it?s tack sharp! When shooting at the minimal focal distance, the bokeh is a dream wide open! It?s built like a tank and worthy of purchase. I highly recommend this lens!

A completely underrated lens.

Beautiful, buttery lens with a gorgeous falloff in macro. I purchased a set of these lenses for my Fx9s specifically because they're fast, buttery, and work flawlessly with Sony's autofocus.

Great sharpness, fast autofocus, great colors, little aberrations. Well build quality making it a little heavy though. Overall great.

When capturing the essence of the world through a wide-angle lens, the SIGMA 28mm F1.4 DG HSM | Art for Canon EF mounts stands out as a stellar choice for photographers who demand excellence in image quality and precision. Revered for its classical 28mm angle of view, this lens harkens back to the golden era of film photography while incorporating state-of-the-art optical design to meet the exacting standards of today's digital era.

Crafted with the discerning photographer in mind, the SIGMA 28mm F1.4 DG HSM | Art lens is a masterpiece of the Art line series, benefiting from SIGMA's extensive experience in creating F1.4 prime lenses. This lens is a modern interpretation of a traditional wide-angle lens, enhanced by cutting-edge design, advanced materials, and the latest in manufacturing technologies.

The optical performance of this lens is nothing short of best-in-class. It features an advanced optical structure with two FLD ("F" Low Dispersion) glass elements and three SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass elements that effectively reduce chromatic aberrations. Additionally, the inclusion of three aspherical lenses, one of which is a large-diameter element, ensures comprehensive correction of magnification chromatic aberration, a common issue in wide-angle lenses. The result is exceptional high-resolution imagery across the entire frame, with minimized distortion and near-perfect correction of sagittal coma flare, making it ideal for capturing everything from dynamic street scenes to expansive landscapes and celestial night skies.

The SIGMA 28mm F1.4 DG HSM | Art lens is designed to excel under any shooting condition. Its front lens element is treated with a water- and oil-repellent coating, coupled with a robust dust- and splash-proof construction, ensuring reliable performance even when faced with adverse weather or challenging environments. The updated Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) provides swift and silent autofocus capabilities, enabling photographers to capture fleeting moments with precision and ease.

As part of SIGMA's industry-leading collection of wide-angle lenses, this 28mm lens joins an elite lineup of large-diameter prime lenses suitable for 35mm full-frame cameras. With focal lengths ranging from 14mm to 35mm, and all but the 14mm offering an impressive F1.4 aperture, photographers have the freedom to select their preferred angle of view. This allows for creative control over depth of field, rendering of beautiful bokeh, and the ability to bring their artistic vision to life with remarkable clarity and detail.

In summary, the SIGMA 28mm F1.4 DG HSM | Art lens for Canon EF is a quintessential tool for photographers who seek a wide-angle lens with uncompromising quality, versatility, and the ability to capture images with a profound sense of realism and depth.
