I bought this lens at the beginning of the summer, and i couldn't be more happy. i haven't gotten to use it as much as i'd like, but so far it works great hooked to my E-500. it is a little heavy, but what do you expect from such a large focal length? i shot an airshow hand held without image stabilization and i am very pleased with the performance.

I've had the lens for a month and used it for wildlife mostly. Pictures are clear and up-close. The weight didn't bother me as I expected it to be heavy with a lens of this size. The kit lenses are made of plastic and feather light, but don't compare in construction as the Sigma lens. I like the fact that in auto focus you can also fine tune it with the focus ring manually. It focuses quickly in auto focus, but I prefer the manual focus most of the time anyway. It takes a little more light than the more expensive lenses, but I expected that as well and for the price, it is a good purchase. To get a lens with this focal length and light weight would cost considerably more. I am very pleased with the lens.

I work in the Middle East so I can’t always get close to what I want to take pictures of. Some of my shots are as far away as 3-5 miles. With this lens I can get a view of it. It's not up close and personal but I can make it out, granted my objects are huge to start with. But anything within normal range I can get fantastic pictures with this lens as long as I can keep the camera still. I would recommend a good unipod, tripod or a stable surface to brace yourself on with this lens; it does get heavy after a while.

For the nature shots that I do, the lens is a fine piece of equipment. It definitely needs a sturdy tripod for crisp focus. The autofocus works well in the spot mode, but tends to shift easily at full magnification.

Choosing a lens for your DSLR or mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera can be a difficult task, not because there are so few choices, but because there are often so many.
This high zoom ratio lens is optimized for digital SLR cameras and capable of covering a wide range of focal lengths from 50mm standard to 500mm ultra telephoto. This ultra-zoom lens employs a seven-group zoom system, which provides a high zoom magnification of 10x. Triple-cam Rear Focusing System ensures high precision throughout the whole focus range.
The new lens coating reduces flare and ghost, which is a common problem of digital cameras and also creates an optimum color balance.
This lens uses four pieces of SLD (the special low dispersion) glass for excellent correction of color aberration. A zoom lock switch eliminates "zoom creep" during transportation, a convenient addition when traveling. The HSM Hyper Sonic Motor models provide quiet high-speed AF function, as well as full-time manual focus capability., The rear focus mechanism produces a non-rotating front lens elementwhich accepts a bayonet "Petal-type Hood", which prevents extraneous light from degrading the image quality.
By adding an APO teleconverter (sold separately), you can use this lens as a 140-700 .... ..7.3-8.8 MF ultra-telephoto zoom lens with a 1.4X EX teleconverter, or as a 200-1000mm F10.4-12.6 MF ultra-telephoto zoom lens with a 2X teleconverter. ..Teleconverters can be used in 100mm 500mm focal length range..
