This lens spends a lot of time on my camera (Canon 40D)....It's more than a good quality macro lens, I've also used it as a portrait lens.. it works great... and if you have the nerve to get close it's a great street photo lens. At f2.8 it is great in low light. Buy it you won't be sorry.

Bought this at Adorama with the lens outfit (Tiffen). This lens is highly recommended at photozone.de vs the Canon 100L the only advantage of which is being weather sealed but this Sigma 70mm EX DG outperforms the Canon L as being sharper and lighter and produces wonderful bokeh. I bought all my lenses (4 last count) from Adorama and all of them have met or exceeded my expectations. Plus they include the UV, color warming and polarizing lens outfit which sweetens the deal even more.

This lense is on my camera most of the time and is an old reliable fave. Excellent color rendition and bokeh. May not work well in tight spaces since you have to stand 12' away to get morr in the frame. Macro shots let you get real close @1:1. [...]

This is an excellent mid-length lens at a fantastic price that works beautifully on my Canon film and digital bodies. Having the optics of a macro and clarity of a non-zoom it is great for macro work (obviously) but also for a general purpose/portrait lens. It has great colour rendition and really well handled depth-of field. It's an easy lens to handle, with the Limit/Full and AF/MF switches in easy reach and a nice sized barrel that sits well in the hand. The only gripes are that the the lens hood is a strange beast that screws into the front element but is a larger diameter than the lens cap so when it's on, you can't put on the cap. Also, the Auto focus in macro mode is quite slow ... but then again, do you really want to be using AF in Macro mode? Overall, this is an excellent lens that is useful for a wide range of macro subjects as well as general purpose and portrait work.

The biggest challenge photographers face when shooting nature close-ups is how to get a sharp image.
This medium telephoto macro lens is ideal for both digital SLR cameras and 35mm film SLR cameras. The 70mm focal length gives an equivalent field of view as our popular 105mm macro lens when used on digital SLR cameras with an APS-C size image sensor.
The design of this lens makes it suitable for taking pictures in all situations from infinity to 1:1 macro, both with natural light conditions or flash.
A Special Low Dispersion (SLD) lens and two high refractive index SLD lenses provide excellent correction for all types of aberrations and produce an exceptional level of optical performance. Sigma..s super multi-layer lens coating reduces flare and ghosting, and helps create a natural color balance.
The floating focus system provides extremely high optical performance from infinity to 1:1 Macro.
A "Focus Limiter Switch" in incorporated on the lens, improving the speed and accuracy of autofocus by limiting the focus range. A screw-in lens hood is included for convenient use of circular polarizing filters.
