I like this one better then the one that came with the lense. Though with both of them I wish they had a small locking mechanism to keep it from detaching it?s self.

It did fall off the lens once when I was bending down to pick something up and the hood was touching the ground. I'm not sure if it spun just enough to loosen, but I didn't think it was enough to warrant it to fall off. I'm not sure how durable it will be, but so far it's done its job.

I've used Sigma lenses on my Nikon and Canon camera bodies for many years, including 12 African safari when my primary duty was to help my clients, safely take great photos. The further the photographers are, the less they intrude on the wildlife and the safer it is for both them AND the animals. However, the Foveon sensor, first in the tiny Merrills and Quattros, created images similar to my old Fuji Provia and Velvia slides so when the Sigma SD Quattro H was released, which has the equivalent resolution of a 51 MP Bayer sensor, I first tried the Sigma 105mm f 2.8 macro and was amazed at the color fidelity as well as the resolution. Next I tried the Sigma 28-70mm f 2.8, the Sigma 100-400mm f 5-6.3 and finally the 150mm-600mm, which is the 35mm equivalent of a 195-900mm lens. Since the human eye is the equivalent to a 42mm, this translates to 4.7x to 21,5x magnification. One needs bright light, since the Foveon sensor is superb at ISO 100 but then degrades. The image stabilization, reduces image error by 2-4 shutter speeds, but a sturdy tripod is the best tool for the best images. It is like shooting with a medium format camera. Ironically since I also purchased the Hasselblad lens to Sigma body converter, the images from the Sigma f.8 lens had superior color saturation and resolution than the legendary Hasselblad 100mm f 2 Focal Plane shutter lens. When I tested the Sigma 100-400mm lens at 350 against the Hasselblad 350mm f 5.6 lens, I found the same thing. The Sigma 150-600mm lens at 350mm produced even better images than the Sigma 100-400mm lens. I look forward to testing it in Africa next summer!
