Exceeds Expectations

I got this lens to work with the SLR Magic Anamorphot 2.0 50 Adapter. Love it. The build quality is amazing and I have zero complaints. Shooting a short film in a month with this lens in my lineup.

Not Built to Last

After a year and a half of light use this lens is now broken. I am not sure why because I baby my lenses and have not even used this lens in the last 9 months. I was on a shoot today when I felt a grind when turning the aperture ring Now the front shaft has about a centimeter of play. If I lean the camera forward, the front shaft slides forward and the lens looses focus. It is a shame because I really liked the images this lens give both photos and video, but I won't but risking my money on anything else SLR Magic sells.

Good for B&W

I use this lens for general photography on a Fuji XE-1. I much prefer B&W, my finished work is probably 80:20 monochrome to color. The lens is fast enough to focus. It feels comfortable to use. Clickless aperture ring is annoying - I just remember f1.4 to 5.6 is a quarter turn, then guess the rest. The image quality is generally great where it matters. If I zoom to 100% I'm sometimes not quite convinced about the sharpness, but focus errors and camera shake all take their toll. It's probably my technique. The printed results are fantastic. 12x8 prints completely flatter my abilities. Purple fringes are too common, makes color images unpleasant. Still, I like it, and it's as cheap as chips.

Great For Video and Stills

This lens is great for someone who is more than a casual user since this lens is all manual. There is no auto focusing or auto aperture. The T 1.4 is great for shooting stills and video in low light situations and great for super shallow depth of field. It may be a bit cumbersome focusing shots for stills and video at that wide open but with practice, it will get a lot easier with rewarding results(very pleasant/dreamy bokeh). It isn't the sharpest lens wide open but it is still sharp and stopping it down will get sharper results. The build quality is surprisingly excellent. All metal and has a bit of weight to it. There is no clicking while switching between aperture settings. If you shoot with a light source in frame, you will get flare. It is best to stop it down to 2.8 to reduce the flare and or avoid direct light onto the lens. In very bright situations, an ND filter is a must to get the proper exposure if you choose to keep it wide open for either stills or video. It's a must have lens for people who shoot video or who want a super fast and affordable lens for stills using the micro 4/3rds system.

Magic is True!

The SLR Magic 35mm Cine Mark II Lens is a compact lens designed for compact system cameras for both photography and cinematography. Excellent for portrait and creative photography.

At the wide open aperture it shows a sharp "hot spot" in the centre and a beautiful, soft bokeh in the boundary area. With different combinations of f-stop and focus, you can create many surprising and great effects.

The robust metal construction houses an array of glass elements (8 elements in 8 groups, 4 tantalum) to provide a fast aperture of T1.4 (T stops are a measure of the actual amount of available light). Aperture setting and focusing is done manually. Specifically for cinematographers this lens has an integrated follow-focus set-up and a "de-clicked" (silent / smooth) aperture. These are essential when filmaking.

Compact and lightweight, a perfect everyday companion for everyone. Compatible with Micro four thirds(MFT) mount, Fujifilm x mount and Sony E mount cameras. This mark II version has improved focusing and a more robust front section. The latter is designed to allow the use of anamorphic lenses with out compromise.
